So the wife and I are considering a driving vacation this Spring or Summer and are looking for destinations.
We are thinking 5-6 days. Renting a small motorhome is not out of the question. And we could also take the Harley and then of course also our family vehicle.
We have done the beach to death and local mountains. I do NOT want to do a walking vacation where you hit a town, abandon the car and walk forever, i.e. Savannah. I'm recuperating from two knee surgeries now and I'd rather use my ass than my feet.
We love historical places, auto museums, wouldn't be opposed to traveling up the coast, and then anything else that a female would be interested in.
I do have biker and 4wd friends all over and could make their towns destinations but that's not on the top of the list.
This place is a treasure of knowledge and experience so what do y'all say?

Go to the mountains in late spring early summer (late May/early June) when the rhododendrons are blooming.

- Shenandoah National Park, drive the Skyline Drive and stop at the Harry F Bird Sr visitor center (lots of very short walks with views along the Skyline Drive)
- Luray Va, Luray Caverns nearby the above park
- Grayson Highlands, can take a short walk from the visitor center out on the twin pinnacles trail, and/or a short walk up to the meadow to see the wild ponies
- Virginia Creeper Trail near Grayson Highlands, rent bikes and coast down the creeper trail (very easy ride with almost no pedaling required, just sit on your ass)
- Blue Ridge Parkway, Mount Mitchell, drive to the top and take the short walk to the highest spot east of the Mississippi river
- Bryson City, ride the Great Smokey Mountain Railway, stop at Deep Creek for a short walk
- Road to Nowhere outside Bryson City, short walk to the abandoned tunnel and road

I can keep going with the list, lol
