So we recently moved to East TN. Everything is going well and the move wasn't that bad. However, one item came up missing... The moving company has said that we need to find a comparable camera. The problem is I bought that camera before my oldest was born 8 1/2 years ago. I know technology has changed and hopefully gotten better. We had a Canon 60d with two lenses. One was a 55-135 and the other went out to 300 I believe.

Do any of you know anything about these? I do enjoy taking pictures but sometimes the cell phone just doesn't cut it. Any help is appreciated.

My wife knows all about them. What do you want to know?

They want me to find a comparable replacement. I think I paid around $1500 for the bundle I bought if that matters.

I’ll get her on it today after she gets off work. Sticking with Canon I assume?
Yeah I thought so. I've heard some say that Canon's have the better bodies but Nikon have the better glass. I really think it comes down to preference. I'm used to running my Canon.

Yea so you probably had a 75 - 300. The 60D is a good camera for what it is. It's replacement is the 80D

Here is a 70 - 300.

I have bought from B and H a lot over the years. Best prices on camera equipment. If you want to talk feel free to pm me and ill send you my number.
Many thanks!! I'll check it out. One downer on my 60D was not being able to take timed shots. Not a countdown timer but more like a gopro that takes a shot some many seconds or fractions of a second.

@shawn is more of a camera nerd than I.

I like Nikon because its what I have.

That said...it's odd that the moving company knows they lost your camera. Hope there werent any compromising pics on the intrernal HD. Recuva can find anything...

Most probably don't know but I have a BFA in Art with a concentration in Photography. I have a 4x5 view camera, full darkroom not currently set up, and could bore you on photography..... I work for my dad in the trucking industry though....

'fraid not. We're bland folks. Most pictures were all of family and kids.

yeah I know. I rode one around in my Amazon buggy for a few months but just never did pull the trigger on it.

Wait, are they telling you to give them a price/value on what they "lost" (in other words, somebody stole), based on what its value was today, or to actually buy you a new camera that is the same cost to replace today as it was 8 years ago?
The latter seems very unusual from an insurance payout standpoint.
But if thats the case, and it was $1500 then, keep in mind inflation since 2009 has been just under 18%, so the equivalent cost is $17170 in today's dollar.

Nah, all my shit is > 5yrs old. I haven't really paid any attention to the new stuff. I also have Nikon. The ergonomics on their bodies used to be a lot better, and the programming/button layout/etc was better. Again, no idea if that's still the case. The only Canon I have is an AE-1.

@McCracken I would go with what @ghost was talking about in the 80D lineup after talking to the wife.
Thanks for.the confirmation. You guys have saved me a lot of time. I told the wife last night so we'll start on the paperwork. Unfortunately I won't have it before our trip to Disney :(
