So I’ve acquired this 46 Plymouth that a previous owner has mated to a 88 2500 classic along with a 84 DT466 international diesel with straight drive.

I’ve tried to research these engines but all I’ve really gathered is they are typically built for tractor pulls and in some busses. Engine seems to be in good health and the combo being in the 46 is cool enough for me to keep at the moment, but I can’t seem to find any info as to what transmission might be hooked up to it.

Reverse is all the way left and up, followed by low gear down and left then it appears there are at least 3 other gears.

Anyone familiar enough with these engine/trans combos to know what might be in it? Or how I would be able to tell myself?

And since pics are always fun, an no I do not plan to keep that goofy lookin stack

DT466 is/was a great truck engine. Company I used to work for ran them in all of the medium duty International trucks that we had. So these trucks were in the 1700-1800 series which was 2.5 ton trucks. I don't really remember the trans shift patterns. and keep the stack but put a chrome one on with the rain cap!

There are probably a million 466s on the road they are pretty common. I'm sure it's got a non overdrive spicer trans of some sort, hopefully with synchros. You'd have to look at the tag to know what it is though.

I’m still working on figuring out the shifting pattern. I haven’t taken car down the road yet as the tires are all dry and I don’t want to risk a blow out and rip a fender off this thing

Not to sound dumb but where would this tag be to ID the trans, cast into it? On the pan?

So what are the plans here?
Car is bare inside. Needs complete interior. Wife wants bench seat up for cool factor so doing bench seats front and back, I’ve bought all new glass for the doors, I’ll probably still build a different exhaust for it, throw some fresh tires on it then learn how to drive it haha, car also has suicide doors which was another selling point for me

Here’s some more pics. I’m pretty sure I’ve got all the trim as well for the car. The trans and engine sit so low that it wouldn’t fit on the other side of my shop with the lip of the concrete pad and entry angle

You can easily do a side pipe out of that cowl instead of the stack. I wish they would not have painted the bumpers red.

I thought about that, only concern is diesel exhaust blowing into face of passenger when window is down….i don’t hate the red bumper. We are gonna run with the black and red theme as it was already started
