ok i know its been covered but i had a few questions, this is for a 1986 toyota pickup sas on 37's until i get my tax returns i for sure have the money for a single case 4.7 kit but i read that a dual 2.28 setup is better bc you get more low range and gear selection

my question is what exactly will i need for the duals, i currently have two forward shift gear cases i know i need to shorten my rear d-shaft but my front shaft will work and do i need a new crossmember? and what about a top shift conversion? this is on a dd so it cant be to jimmy rigged

hey josh remember me? them r my 84 axles u got. well i am running dual cases nmy 81 rite now, both with stock gears. i do like the selections i have but i beleive that i still have to high of gear ratio to be doing rock crawling. as far as trail riding and stuff they are perfect but when u get on them bigger rocks it is not low enough, in my opinion. so i just bought 4.7 gear set to put n my rear case :) yes u will ned a new crossmember and u cud go with the top shift conversion. hope this helps

i runs stock gears with two cases i like it i had two cases with the 47 in the rear it was nice but a little too low for anything but it was fun since you have two cases already get an adaptor and a top shift kit and a crossmember and you will be good to go!!

I have had dual cases in a 4cyl Tacoma, both t-cases had factory gears. Axles had 4.10's, and 39.5" tires. I felt it was plenty low enough, never wanted 4.7's in the (front) case. Nobody makes kow gearsets for the Tacoma chain driven case.

I also had a buggy with dual cases + 39.5's and 4.7's in the rear case. It was lower than needed IMO. I had another buggy with dual cases, both stock gears, and 39's (or were they 42's snappy?), I felt it was plenty as well.

I vote 4.7's in the single case. That ends up being ALOT cheaper (no driveshaft modifications). Still gives plenty low gearing, just not as many options.
