So does repairing the charge air hose ( from intercooler to intake) with duct tape count as being a " redneck " repair ?
Work van, '06 Sprinter, haul'n azz to Selma this morning, of the beltline onto 40 E coming off the ramp, got nuttin !! accelerator to the floor, speedo needle going backward....... ummm, thats not right....45mph by the time I got to Jones Sausage Rd. no faster. hit the accelerator, and it just moans, and no speed at all, then I notice that there is no turbo whine either.....CHIT ! Hey, there is a DODGE dealer right around the corner here, how 'bout that !!!
Pull into the service lane, Sprinter tech is busy for the next hour, and it'll take 2hrs to do the repair IF that is the problem.... Ok, go to the parts Dept, I'll fix the damn thing myself, it's not like I don't have any tools with me ( I'm a forklift road tech )
BAH! no parts, they sold the hose assy yesterday, for the same issue ! Parts will be here tomorrow. walk back out to the van, Service writer has already checked out the van ( tech came out too ) yup, turbo hose blown out, OH BTW, it's still in WARRANTY !! SWEET !! Appt made for monday morn !!
limped it down to Clayton so I could get some duct tape to patch the hose ( Clayton is downhill from where I was, so it actually wasn't much of an issue). Wrapped the hose, I GOT BOOST !! but also have this strange sqeal when I accelerate hard, kinda like a cat screaming.... go figure !!
Duct tape saves the day, my customer was quite happy I made it to their location as soon as I did ( if they only knew ! )
