As long as your float and seat are working correctly anything below 9 should be fine but I can guarantee your accelerator pump is dead causing your starting issue. Throw a cheap carb rebuild kit at it and see if it makes a difference.

I swapped a 6.0 into my square body dump truck....It wasnt very difficult.
