I picked up a nice hard top for Tonyas YJ last night and I'm not sure how much,if any,of the soft top stuff I still need.I assume the windshield channel for the rag top need to go but what about the tub rails?? Do I need to remove those or will the top sit down over it?? I assume the bolts that hold the rails down will also be what holds the top on?? I'm gonna be runnin soft uppers. Is there anything else I need to be able to use them w the hard top?? Or is it just a matter of sliding them in the top of the half doors?? This is not our first jeep but its the first to have a hard top.

Iirc soft uppers have squarish corners, hard are rounded. Should bolt to the lip the belt rail is mounted on. Probably have to remove it. Windshield channel too. I had a soft top yj years ago and recently got a hard top yj and that's the main differences. If you pop rivet or tack the belt rail strips on you probably can leave them installed. Of course, it's the same bolts holding either one on, so six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Remove all soft top parts and secure in a bag. Find a set of Best Top upper windows for the curve that will fit the hard top.

Get ready to throw the soft top away. Once the weather gets nice, get a full bikini top and that will be all you want.

All soft top hardware is removed. the windshield channel is removed, and the tub rails are removed.

There's 2 types of soft top styles when you look the door opening. There are tops made with a round upper door opening and framework designed to work with full steel doors. They make soft doors with the round upper corner copying the full steel door shape. Then there's another kind of top with door opening that won't work with full steel doors. The soft door for this second style will have a square corner on the upper rear and seals (term used loosely) by overlapping the soft top.

Sounds like a big pain!! how about I just come buy that hard top for $300 and save you the pain of trying to put it on!...:D
