I know it's been done; probably on a daily basis.

Question of the day:

What is your method of correction for the driveshaft clearing the transmission pan on an automatic TJ with a early Bronco D44 front axle with a low suspension lift and 3-link?

I did a jeep for a customer with EB 44 and 9" recently. When I got the front axle under the jeep that the customer had purchased my heart sunk cause I realized that the front shaft was gonna hit the tranny pan and the belly pan that I had just spent about 10 hours building. But once I got the axle all mounted up and the panhard to center the axle I reaized that with a little reworking of the belly pan the shaft would clear both. Only by about a half and inch but it cleared. This jeep had around 8" of lift but I set everything up at 6" because I didnt know we were adding 2 in spacers at that time. You should be fine once everything is centered and in place. Here's a link to the build thread http://www.nc4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83771&highlight=darell

Yeah, I'm familiar. This is the jeep I'm working on now. I'm the new owner and am returning it back to earth after its 8" of lift off. We need to talk again.

Ahh can you bring it by sometime? if you took the spacers off, the panhard will need to be shortened to bring the axle to back centered its brobably off to the passenger side now and It'll need to be cut down. Give me a shout and we can talk about it do you still have my #

The axle has been re-centered. It may need to be cut down soon, but we haven't gotten that far yet. Currently we are addressing the front driveshaft hitting the pan, finding a good ride height, transfer case shift linkage bindage, rear driveshaft angles, and a motor mount life and body lift.
I'll call you if I've got any strange questions.

Is the shifter linkage binding because of the mml or was it binding when you got it? If there were issues when you got the jeep I'll be glad to help in any way I can with fixing that. I know it was adjusted properly when it left my shop. I can't speak for what has been done since I finished it but I know it has all been taken apart to change the color of everything. Let me know if I can help. As far as the front drive line goes, your probably going to make the clearance worse between the tranny because it will raise the front output of the case.

The original problem, and start of the teardown, was the rear driveshaft exploding. It was in an awful bind somehow. I've since had the center bearing on the Tcase side of the shaft replaced/upgraded. I'm not sure how it was functioning in it's other configuration. The TCase shifting issue has sprung up sometime after the rear driveshaft.

This was an issue that I explained to darell would be a problem. When I installed the SYE and ordered the tom woods shaft it was built for the six inches of lift which was already pushing binding at six inches, then it was decided to add 2 more inches which caused problems with the sway bar end links and shocks being too short and rear drive shaft binding at ride height. His plan was to never wheel the thing and believe it or not he had no plans to ever drive it. So he wanted to leave it alone till he could replace the parts. Unfortunately you ended up with it before the issues were resolved.

Well, it's already on the road to recovery. I don't mind fixing it to be right the first time. It sits at least 4 inches lower now and is much more comfortable at that height. Rear driveshaft has been fixed and we are working on the rest of it today.
It will be wheeled once it's wheelable.
