Guys,
i'm having a issue with my 1988 5.0 mustang motor that i put into my cj-7. engine recently started coughing and sputtering and shutting off after engine warms up..when it's cold, i can run it for a few miles, then it sputters and shuts off.

i thought about vapor locking, so i vented the gas tank (vented gas cap), wrapped the aluminum fuel lines with the DEI wrap (exhaust runs close to lines in back). the wrap runs from the gas tank almost all the way to the engine. the fuel pump is brand new, the filter is clear of debris.

i'm not a mechanic, so i've exhausted my experience. Could any of the sensors be bad? (mass air flow sensor, idle air control valve, throttle position sensor???) i have no idea, but before i start spending more $$, i figure i'd ask...

thanks for your time,
brian

replace the ignition module that is attached to the distributor. Its a really bad design, gets hot and malfunctions. The late model stuff is seperated b/c of that problem.

Brian,

Not a bad idea here from John. But also lmportant, if that does not fix, this rig has been running with this combo for a while, correct? no answers for you, just trying to help fix. It almost sounds like its a rig that just got running from your post. But this just started after it has been running very well for some time, right?
