At Target today and walked by the electric razor section of the store and it started me thinking. Right now I use a regular razor and shave in the shower. Is it worth switching over??

no

I've had a few electrics, ribbon and rotary.

They are much rougher ( in my opinion) than a good shaving gel and a MACH3.

If I use an electric, I get razor burn something fierce ( only get it with razor if I dry shave, and that don't happen much)

An electric doesn't cut near as close, I don't care what the commercials say. If you're prone to 5 o'clock shadow, you'll be getting it by about 1:30-2 with an electric.

Also, if your prone to going a few days without shaving, and electric will bring the suck pulling and basically not cutting worth a damn.

These are my experiances. I'm sure others have different posibbly even more positive results.

heres another vote for no, for almost the exact same reasons that he listed, although lately ive just been growing out the beard so i dont have to worry about shaving, i think thats the best kind of shaving.........

i got one of those fancy new panasonics that cleans itself and all that i got for christmas. i like it alot so far, and it shaves closer than any other electric i've used. still not as close as a manual one though as has been mentioned. my only complaint is it's hard to get at some spots, but that may just be me not used to using a ribbon style. i've always had rotary.

previously i was using a norelco that has that built in goo stuff/shaving gel you can use. the norelco was pretty good, but blades wore out fast and it didn't have a built in sideburn trimmer.

i have a fear of manual razors for some odd reason. i think it's because i decided it would be a brilliant idea to try my mom's razor out when i was a little kid. ended up just shaving skin off, lol.

fwiw, this is coming from a hairy bastard. i have THICK facial hair that grows at an alarming rate. i can grow a completely filled in beard in a little over a week.

Thanks so much for the replys. I will not be spending $50+ on a electric razor, I will be spending that money on the Jeep.

i've been using the mach 3 since they came out a long time ago and never looked back. I heard the vibrating razors work pretty well too, never tried that one.

I second or third all of this.

I used some other razors along the way, but Ive been running a Mach3 since they sent it to me in the mail for free, and it really is a good razor. I got one of the new Fusion ones with FIVE5! BLAD3S!!! and it was a disaster. 3 of the 5 blades bent against my hair, and did a lot of scraping to my face. Pretty much any high spots were messed up. So its back to the Mach3 for me.

I switched about a year ago. I love my electric razor. I keep one at home and an older one at work just in case I am running late or something. Depending on what brand/razor you use now it may be alot cheaper to go electric. I was using the mach3 and a good gel cream. That worked really great but got expensive at a blade a week. Anyway get one on sell and try it out for awhile and see what you think. If you like you can keep that one or get a better one.

Don't get a cheap electric.
You'll be miserable.
I'm lazy, and have a habit of not paying attention when shaving. (bad combination for straight blade :) )
I tried a cheapo electric, and it sucked. Ripped more hair out than it cut, and left spots no matter what I tried.
Paid for a good one, (the silly one with the goo) and it's worked great until about a month ago when I dropped it and broke the sideburn trimmer.
If you like to wait a week or let it grow out, then electrics will HURT, (unless you use the trimmer thing first)
