Electric v. Gas pressure washers

I'm looking to buy a pressure washer to wash my truck and quad. I won't use it for anything else, just muddy vehicles.

I see there are some cheaper electric models around 1600 psi, and then for about $150 more there are gas models at around 2000psi. Do I need a gas powered washer or will a cheaper electric one work? If I can find a used gas model at a pawn shop, I might pick it up for the price of a new electric unit. Any advice?

I myself have killed a couple electric ones.I only used them for washing cars and cleaning mud out of the Jeep. Both were different models and neither lasted more than a few months. In their defense, one came from Wal mart and the other from Harbor Freight.

I've tried three different brands of electric none lasted a year. Didn't use them much just to wash off mud.

I've got a Karcher electric one and it really brings the suck. It is in no way even comparable to a quarter wash sprayer, much less a nice gas pressure washer. I bought mine pretty much exclusively to keep the Bronco a little cleaner, and it was a real waste of money. For anything that is seriously muddy you have to put the spray nozzle practically touching the surface to clean it. For very light duty cleaning it's probably fine, but if you find yourself trying to get mud off of your rigs underside this machine is completely inadequate for the job. Do yourself a favor and get a gas one.

i bought a husky 2600 psi washer from home depot got mine on sale for $150.00 as reconditioned has more than enough power get a gas one it will pay for itself in no time

I picked this up today for 150. It's got a 8hp Honda motor and 3000psi. It has 2 oil caps, one on the motor and one on the pump. What kind of oil goes in the pump?

My pump calls for Mobile 1 15-50. I can't remember the name of mine right now but it looks very similar to yours but 4000psi.

Just remembered the name of mine. It's a Comet pump. What's yours?

Got a karcher for 14 years and love it. Electric is good for me, no hauling gas, choking, jerking on rope, quiet, and when I release trigger it stops! Also light weight! For some body with a bad back, it's the ONLY way to go! For the price, you can't beat it!

This.

And then the high-side outlet cracked... because it's made from fawking plastic. It still works, but it makes even less pressure than before, and it doesn't shut off when you release the trigger... because half the spray is still coming out of the crack.

Just keep in mind when shopping for PW's the GPM is as important as the psi rating. I much prefer gas over electric unless your going 220v. Karcher makes a good pump for the money. I've had this model for about 8 years with no issues and I use it weekly for work http://cgi.ebay.com/karcher-6-hp-28...9QQcmdZViewItemQQssPageNameZRSS:B:SRCH:US:101 I bought mine through Sherwin Williams at a surprisingly good price... I think it was $250 at the time and came with a blaster tip.

I completely forgot about that; the same thing happened to mine when my dad borrowed it.

The one I bought came with 4 tips and it's a Campbell Hausfeld. Has anyone heard of this company?

I've heard of them, but had no idea that they made pressure washers. I know them mostly as a maker of super low end air tools. But hey, it's got a Honda engine, so how bad could it be?

Back when I was detailing cars, we had a heated pressure washer.

It was TEH SHIZNIT. Would cut through anything.

That is what I'd recommend to you.
