So I'm in the process of converting my new tow rig to a motorhome. One of the requirements is shore power. I don't know a lot about electrical and everything I read online gets into technical discussions that go right over my head.

I plan to have a mini fridge and a tv running while going down the road and probably an outlet for phone charges to plug in. How do I calculate the size inverter needed.

Second a lot of people on the forums use a inverter/charger so that when plugged to shore power it charges the batteries. Not something I'm to concerned with because I don't plan on any extended boondocking in just the tow rig. However it seems these model chargers often have features built in to switch from 120v to dc power automatically. Eliminating the need for manual disconnect switches.

Here is a diagram I found online of what I think I need. Look about right?

And here is a link to the inverter I was thinking of getting

Sorry for the John fooler length post

Watts= amps X volts.....

So if your refrigerator is 120 volt at, just say 13 amps, that would be 1,560 watts.

Do this for everything you want to power and add it all together and that will be how many watts you are pulling, someone may know better but I would say oversize your inverter by 30% of your total watts. Or just install a generator.....

Thought of just doing a generator. Just thought that this might be cheaper and more convenient.

Search craigs list for a rotted out camper..... Pull all the converter and parts needed for your project and scrap the rest for cheap parts

Not a bad idea snappy hadn't thought of that.
