I was wondering a few things. Does anyone know where we can take old used computer and electronics to be recycled? Is there a local place in the RALEIGH, DURHAM, CHAPEL HILL area? And is the metal in these devices or the cases they are made out of worth and $ at the scrap yards? Thanks!!

I have a bunch of electronics i need to get rid of. Old printers and crap. What to do?

I don't know what Durham and Orange do, but in Wake County, you just take them to the dump. They have a special area off to the side for household electronics. They're sent off someplace to get melted down into their component parts and recycled.

Look in the yellow pages under either "recycling", "scrap dealers" or junk dealers". There are quite a few places that specialize in electronics recycling. You should get a few bucks out of it.

Goodwill in conjunction w/ Dell has been taking it in W-S for the last year. They *picked up* several dozen old Pentium classic PCs, 50 - 17" CRTs, 5 printers, 1 scanner and a pickup load of old KBs/mice from us this past Monday.

I know CRTs are supposed to be recycled since there's some nasty stuff in them, but most often they are not. Most companies have to pay someone to take their used CRTs if they are recycling responsibly.
