Can't tell if water damage is an issue or not, but here are the symptoms:

Terribly loud buzzing electricity sound coming from speakers. Volume knob doesn't control/dim it. Makes the sound on all settings (bt, radio, pandora, etc)

Equalizer popped its 2amp fuse after about 15 seconds of this sound

Replaced 2amp fuse

Equalizer started to smoke slightly, so I shut everything off.

I can't find any other popped fuses or obvious water damage, but we have had a ton of rain recently.

Suggestions on where to start diagnosing?

It is a Wet Sounds WS420 equalizer.

Sounds like you let the magic smoke out..

There was a day when I might have believed that.... ;)

No..hes right.
Nothing in there should smoke. Water inside electronics if the boards aren't potted it will cause a short

You might be able to find some of this on Amazon or eBay... ought to fix it:

I bypassed the equalizer and went straight to the stereo. Sounds like new. :)

So I'm saving the $400 to spend on fashion and hair care.

Why would anybody put an equalizer on a boat? I thought the main requirement of boat stereos was to be loud. That's all. You're not trying to wow your neighbor with your hi-fi, listening to Steely Dan's "Aja" and sipping a fine cognac. "This is where the sound guy farted. You can't hear that on your dad's stereo!"

I thought the general consensus among boat owners was that FL/GA Line sound best when pumped through enough subwoofers and cheap Chinese amps to create a wake while sitting still.
