I have a 2003 TJ that had the rear differential; replaced with a Isuzu Rodeo D44.

Any ideas on how I can get something put in place in order to be able to get it pass the inspection guys. I heard something about a transfer case lock. Can anyone install these things?

Thanks...

Craig

a tcase brake wont legally pass inspection. If the inspector doesnt visually look at each axle end for ebrake cables it will pass or you could just put a heavy spring on the ebrake lever so it feels like tension when pulled. but if he gives it the push test youll fail.

Other than that to legally pass inspection youll need ebrakes on the axle.

I dunno, looking at:

§ 20‑124. Brakes.
(c) Every motor vehicle when operated on a highway shall be equipped with brakes adequate to control the movement of and to stop and hold such vehicle, and shall have all originally equipped brakes in good working order, including two separate means of applying the brakes. If these two separate means of applying the brakes are connected in any way, they shall be so constructed that failure of any one part of the operating mechanism shall not leave the motor vehicle without brakes.

So it says "all originally equipped brakes", which would preclude the use of a driveline parking brake on your TJ, like StudNuts said..

But old Land Cruisers came OEM with a driveline parking brake..

My money is that if the guy pulls the handle and the vehicle stops, you'll pass.

Ive had nothing but a hydraulic line lock since 2002, and never got any hassle about it. That may partially be because its a manual instead of an auto.

I have already spoken with three inspection stations and all of them state that as long as when they engage the brake the vehicle doesn't move it passes.

So back to the original question. Is there anyone that can install a tcase lock for me?

Yup, Craig, we can install one if you want. We did one of the first tcase brake setups on a TJ with a disk/flange from HAD and handle from a B2200 Mazda mounted through the console. Give me a shout if we can help.

Andy

I can make E-brake lines for you.. it will look ghetto but it will work. Let me know if you want to know how to do it or want my help
