what actually goes into rebuilding a engine

im interested in buying a beat down 4.0l out of a 97 TJ that runs but has a loud knock after a while

i'm guessing its already pulled from the vehicle. all you really got to do, is tear down. measure bore and possibly get it bored if you need it or want a bigger bore, measure the crank to see if it needs to be grind down, for undersize bearings. check for any warpage. clean all the parts or buy new parts, and assemble. put it back in time, do valve adjustment and everything. its not exactly hard, but not exactly easy. and definitely not cheap.
