I'm looking to trade up to a diesel tow rig and just for grins looked over the coparts auctions. There is always a few cummins trucks on there with obvious but sometimes seemingly repairable issues. Anyone had any experience with buying a salvage truck from a salvage dealer? I suppose there is always the unknown and feeling like your buying a hotel for gremlins... but they sure are cheap

If they dont come w a salvage title you should be able to get full coverage and but most bank wont loan on a wreck or one w a rebuilt title.

If your lookin at one thats 4wd w front end damage be sure and check the trans/case in it.I have saw more than one that was busted as a result of the wreck.

Alot of times they'll say it only needs $2K-$3k to fix it and if thats so why did they total a $35000 + truck over it????

I was looking to buy back a salvage car that someone hit me in. Not only was I only going to be able to get liability, but after the money I put into it, I found that if someone was to hit me again they would only give me the salvage value of $1500. So I'd be out what ever I put in it to fix it. I walked away & found something else.

I have bought more than one. Generally there's more to it than you think there is, but on some I have came out really good. The key is to look for roof dents or dents in parts that can't be replaced. Even if you can fix the dent often it's a sign of more serious problems.

My insurance company told me about no full coverage. But what if I fix it and get a rebuilt title? Can that even happen in NC?

I can get financing for a salvage vehicle its either 80% of the value before it was salvaged or 11k whatever is lower...

I'm with you 1-tonmudder on the 2k to fix it. Some of them look real good but that just makes you wonder whats really wrong with it...

They don't factor in the labor when they give the quotes to fix.

Yeah I know but some of the prices quoted to repair are unreaslistic, especially when one door cost $1000
