i have a 2000 model TJ 4.0 with long arm lift, 37inch iroks, 8.8 rear, d30 in the front. front and rear is locked with a LSD and has 4:56 gears, rubi 4:1 T/C. not too long ago between the drivers side and the passager side of the dana 30, i broke Yukon axles in 3 places. they twisted at the splines and broke off. now i just fixed that problem 2 weeks ago with some STOCK axles. well, we go out wheeling this past saturday and it starts making a loud banging noise. i pull the cover off and im missing about 8 teeth on the ring gear. are these 37s too much for a dana 30? should i upgrade to a 44 or a 60? i really don't want to break something in the front end every time i have to get on it alittle to get out of a mess.

suggestions?

Yes they are too much IMO. down size to 35s or upgrade the 30

Depends on terrain and application of the skinny pedal.
If you actually are wheling it and like the gas much more than idle speed...yes

I see broken spider gears and axles on Dana 30's/35's all day along, even with 31 to 33" tires. 2 last week actually. I would upgrade to a 44. Good axle and my customers beat on them all day with little issue.

swap it out for a yota!

haha i have a 95 yota on 35s and i can give it hell all day long. only broke one axle in the 7 years i've owned it.

i think i am just going to look for a dana 44. no need in spending $400 to buy gears and have them set up only to break again. i guess it needs to be a drivers side drop. where can i find one? any idea on how much they run?

Maybe before (non yukon) alloy shafts were invented...but an hp44 will hold up fine to 37s on a tj and will half as ridiculously large.

Meh, everyone says 37s are too much on a D30. I went 38s instead. :flipoff2:

A stock shaft will not last longer than 10 mins on mine. I run Nitro chromos. I have not broken a shaft as of yet, but have broken three u-joints which caused the ears on the shaft to go. I've replaced the spicer joints with the nitro excaliber 300Ms, inner Cs are gusseted, d30 is trussed, WJ knuckle swap with Raybestos professional ball joints. Running 4.56 by yukon with a lockright. Yes, I polished the fuck out of a turd....

Gulches this weekend is first real test on the 38s, though I did run the last ECORS race on them with. Blew out the passenger ball joints which caused the u-joint/shaft explosion. We shall see what happens this weekend. :driver:
