Got a flowmaster 40 on my Toyota. I hate it. Cant hear myself think. Interior resonance is horrible. I have it welded to the flange that bolts to the back of the cat, so the muffler is directly under the extra cab area. I dont have a tail pipe, the exhaust ends at the muffler.

Now, I want it quieter.

If I move the muffler back under the bed and put a tailpipe on, will I be able to hear the radio again?

Prob not, I have the same setup on the 4runner. The muffler is further back right in frt of the axle. Maybe a thrush turbo or something.

I have a flowmaster 50 on my 4runner 22re. Stock everything else, dumps out over the rear axle. It's not too bad; definitely not too loud but still has a good sound to it.

It doesn't matter where your muffler is, it just depends on where it ends. There are a lot of ways you can get a quieter exhaust note, however, you did get a flowmaster 40...not a quiet muffler.

1) extending the tail pipe to the back of the truck (cheapest method, but will still be somewhat loud)
2) insulate the cab with sound deadening material (can be expensive, but will eliminate the sound inside while keeping the agressive note of the 40 on the outside)
3) just get a different muffler (best method if you want an overall quieter exhaust)

these aren't the only options you have, but just some of them

I fixed this a month ago. Got rid of the flow 40 and put a flow 50 on. Had a tailpipe run to the factory exit location. Sounds sooooo much better now.
