At this point, it has the bare minimum to make it road worthy. It is currently running stock manifolds with dual exhaust through some very basic mufflers.

Loud is not my goal, deep an low is. This is not a hard-core off-roader so having more piping underneath is not a big deal to me but it all has to stay inside the frame-rails until the exit(s). And I will most likely stay with the stock manifolds.

I am debating between staying with dual or finding a cross-over pipe and going to a bigger single system. The question is, does a V8 crossover pipe work with this transmission? And, is the exhaust note improved enough with dual exhaust to justify the extra expense?

My Nissan Titan has a single system with a flow-master (installed by a previous owner) and it sounds pretty nice, IMO. But I can remember enjoying the stereo effect of my dad's old 304 with a very quiet dual system.

I had duals on my CJ for years, but with the offset fuel tank, it was too close & too many bends. I finally decided to go back to single, but didn't want in hanging below the bellhousing. I had a independent muffler shop run new duals [2"] to a crossover at the rear output of the transfer case. It loops over the top in a U shape. BTW, I have my own custom tranny skidplate. Goes into a 2" muffler & exits as 2 1/2" pipe, & out the rear. Nothing hanging below the frame. It's Always been tight between the frame & transfer case, but double. I have the Turbo style/sound muffler. I think it sounds good, but not noisy!
PS: I'm running a T-18 / D20.

The 727 has a pretty wide valve body so not sure how you would tuck a crossover pipe in there and it not be in the way somehow. I have headman headers on my 360 with 2.25" dual pipes going to 40 series flowmasters. Sounds great but my be too loud for some.
