So exhaust flange gasket needed replaced just did donuts gaskets no issues... bolts looked good pb blaster let sit and wam two broke off! How the hell can I get these out with exhaust still under the truck? Clamp with socket wouldn't fit should I a grind back of stud off and pull through? I'm pissed bc it's raining now so I can't finish working on it lol

Do you have, or know anyone with a pneumatic air chisel?

I do not! I did attempt a hand chisel and failed, exhaust was moving and I was pissed then the rain started up.. was going to attempt to chisel enough to get a fork behind stud head

Gotcha. Yeah an air chisel would handle that in about half a second.

Well if I don't get it figured tom it'll be rolling down the road loud as 5.7 vortec will roll for the mechanic man to take a dollar... lol thanks gonna brain storm on this and look into air tools lol

Where ya at I got an air chisel you can borrow. ..I don't guess they'd punch out from the broken side ?

Zoo City Sawz

Blacksburg, Va... they won't punch out at all believe I'm gonna cut heads off and maybe drill em out hell if I know yet!? Lol Appreciate the offer tho

A hammer and punch should take care of that with a few quick smacks. If it doesn't come out, just hit it harder.

You can always cut/slot it to the outside to make it easier. And replace with thru bolts.. Pull the exhaust and it'll be easier. Or at least get it to where it's more accessible. Looks like a suburban exhaust system.

Little heat on the flange would help expand the grip on the studs. Even a small hand help propane job would help some.

Oxy fuel torch and burn it out, minimal access needed.. tsc (Lowe's used to sell) sells a torch kit that uses disposable cylinders.. Works ok. $10 per oxygen cylinder, but if you don't need it often.. don't expect to go cutting plate up with it but works awesome for exhaust nuts.. induction heater is another option.

This what you speak of? My little propane torch sucks and almost blows out in these 25mph gusts today lol

Are the travel size acetylene torch kits worth $300? I've considered getting a small setup but wasn't planning on it right now...

Without pulling exhaust and cats from headers no way to get a hammer in to punch em! Busted knuckles attempting that already shoulda swung harder I guess...

My heart says fawk yes to this^^^ my old age says don't be a dumbass... lol

Well the bernzomatic sucked ass I expected more I suppose lol didn't get flange hot enough with the crazy wind we got going on!!

That sucks...wander if you could rent a small oxyfuel torch?
Someone else mentioned an air chisel.
If you have any kind of compressor an air chisel with a straight Center punch anvil work really well if you can get in line with the stud. I used them for rivit removal in Twin I Beam Fords, Studs in large frames and removing heads on bolts where a flame is to dangerous.
A torch was my go to until I watched a Front end Suspension Speacialist attack everything from Bolts to Tie Rods and Ball Joints with a real good Snap On version.

Sorry I forgot that the torch is weak in a breeze.. it would've def keep you from breaking though. And she has a nice and small flame to get to the collector nuts without worrying about burning the vehicle to the ground..

Finally got it to the shop air chisel and a lot of cussing got em out! What really sucks is that the new gasket isn't completely sealing so still have a leak... copper rtv should fix it or I'll drill a new hole and add a bolt to bottom where the leak is! Appreciate the help

Is this on the 99 Burb?

If it is I might have a deal for you....

Yep! I like deals!
