Anyone ever use the Expandable spray foam stuff? Can you sand it or shave it?

I have an old sheet metal hard top on my Commando and I was toying with the idea of spraying the inside of it and sanding/shaving/forming it into a headliner. I figured it would be good insulation for sound and heat.

The expansion of some products can swell/split things if too much is shot into voids. I've used it to fill hollow plastic cooler lids and it helps strengthen and insulate them but you need to drill holes to let excess out or stuff can balloon badly!!

Definately not waterproof. But good for some situations mainly insulation purposes where you can't reach. I would never use it on any metal situation or you're guaranteed to regret it. Polyurethane base (which is weather resistant) but the expansion creates isolated air pockets that beg for moisture. Only way to get it off your hands is to peel it off the 4'th day...

I had a suggestion given to me to use the plumbing variety. It's H2o resistant was the reasoning. Thanks for the input.

All of my experiences (and friend's/familie's experiences) is from the brand "Great Stuff" in a 1 part spray can. I googled this and see there's 2-part varieties that claim H2O resistance??? I love trying new things so please enlighten???

I know several people that has been tricked into thinking Great Stuff is water resistant and costing 10 times more in the long run. This 2 part foam may be the ticket for that stuff would have 1,000 uses if it WAS H2O resistant???

My dad used it in his chicken house. It worked great but inside a chicken house, you don't care if you over spray or if it swell over and around boards. Stuff swells a lot more than what one would think. Well that sounded gay....oops

There is a spray foam that's closed cell used for insulation that will not hold water. I have seen it used in under floor, crawlspace applications. Don't know the name of it though.

Might have 2 component left over from a job. Let me know I'll check inventory. Can't do in cold weather.
