Three weeks ago during a storm, a significant top portion of a live tree came through my roof, ripping 7-8 sizable holes, destroying gutters, knocking down two fences, etc.
Called my insurance guy (State Farm) with whom I've always been covered and never had any claims, or problems. He recommended a roofer to get out right away to tarp the roof, as more rain was expected.
Since then, nothing from him. I've had to contact the roofing company twice more, as the second time they came they gave some BS repair/patch quote and the third time for a 1/2 replacement quote.
My deductible is at 2%, which means I'm potentially looking at a chunk out of pocket.
Enter: reasonably intelligent, well covered neighbor.
Says I am a dumbass if I am not using a public adjuster, gives me a contact, and I reach out. Public adjuster comes out within 24hours, is VERY professional, very thorough, etc. Explains that he "works" for me, whereas my StateFarm's adjuster works for the insurance company. Says his repair quote, that he then files on my behalf to StateFarm is truly getting the house back to as it was, no out of pocket, etc. etc. etc.
Can someone please explain to me what I need to be doing in this situation. My biggest concern is (assuming public adjusters are something I should be using) that SF will process the claim and then shortly thereafter either jack my rates up or worse, drop my coverage.
And.....go!
