External fuel pump on TJ?

Has anyone put an external fuel pump on a TJ, specifically an 05 or 06? My stock pump needs to be replaced and I'd rather do an external setup if possible. I have an RCI fuel cell in the back if that makes a difference. The 05-06 models run around 59 psi fuel pressure. I read on pirate that a WJ external filter/regulator can be used and it has a return line built into it that can easily be routed back to the tank. So, if that will work, I only need a pump that will supply the right pressure. Walbro makes an inline pump that supplies 255 lph which I believe is the same as the factory pump. Anyone tried this setup or think of anything I'm overlooking?

E2000 pump is pretty much a standard. That's what I used when I had a YJ with a Vortec. Easy to find at most parts stores, if I remember correctly they are 60psi.

Randal, I have personally ran Walbros (and some E2000's too) externally on various Jeeps. YJ, TJ buggy, my old MJ. You will have no issues at all. I know where you can get one locally in Raleigh of need be. Let me know if you want the info.

Sure Jody, thanks. I am leaning towards the Walbro pump over Airtex, which is what most parts stores have, at least here locally. Airtex has a lot of bad reviews.

I'm running the (fleabay variety) E2000 on my TBI setup, but it only needs 15# :D

The key to keeping them alive is mounting as high as possible in relation to top of tank to reduce the "head" (how far the fuel must be suctioned to get to the pump) and add a filter (I use the clear plastic WIX filters for this) BEFORE the pump...

86-89, IIRC. Once they got to 89 or 90, they were using a single in-tank high pressure pump.

And to add, while most are capable of 90#, if you have a fuel pressure regulator and return line (no idea about those newfangled Joops :) ), it'll bleed off the difference in unused/unneeded pressure/flow...

I've read a Corvette filter/regulator (cant remember exactly what year) has a built in return and also regulates to 60 psi. Thanks for all the input. I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger on this setup.
