I understand a chunk of their budget comes from sponsor products used on the show. But...who in the hell has that kind of money to spend on parts?? The twin turbo Duramax, I saw a nice engine built on todays episode, axles from Dynatrac, free tires, tools, etc, etc..... The episodes where they turned a Suburban into a Hummer were useless IMO. I don't know anyone that spend the money on the Hummer body. It would be nice to see something tailored more to the average Joe sometimes. Give me an episode on turning chicken sh*t into chicken salad on a reasonable budget. I also see a lot of things that are flown through without a lot of important detailed explanation. A veteran doesn't need all the detail but to some greenhorns viewing, the information show usually isn't helpful.

I gotta start my own car show. I think I've got some really good ideas, just gotta make it happen somehow.

I understand completely how you feel. But you have to understand they hit a large audience, not just the group who build in the drive way or at a Buddy's carport. I have loved some of the builds, and some I had no interest in at all. All in all though, they do seem to have the knowledge of what they do, and the skills to get it done.

Yeah, a lot of details are left out mainly due to time restraints. even if they didn't have commercials, there isn't enough time to show and explain it all. I myself think that since they are gonna do it, they should offer a full uncut DVD or CD of the full blown task at hand.

But if you look at the other gear head shows you will find they all do the same thing. give ya the high lights, and few of the details.

That Ranger they built was a bomb

It broke not once but twice on some light trail.
Just shows thousands of dollars of parts can break also...
They built some kinda dry sump race motor today take 97% of us can't use.

Soooo they must have spike in the hospital there upnover. Good to see you're being postive.

Race is on ABC, should be a goodie to watch. Go 07!

I understand the target audience. I would try to target a slightly different audience, such as the weekend DIYer. I just think it would be cool to have a down to earth automotive TV show. I know a couple of knuckleheads who could make it entertaining. It would have to be a one hour show - no question. Instead of going over a front axle conversion in a Toyota in a 30 minute show.. It would be done in 3-4 one hour episodes. Have some episodes solely on basic techniques/tricks such as welding, removing broken bolts, fixing various leaks, diagnosing an ignition problem, and so on.

Maybe take someones vehicle that has a problem (say a single mother, disabled person, or an out of work person) and make an episode on fixing someones real day to day car problems. We get an episode and someone that could use a break gets one.

Just a thought right now...... but I think I can make this happen.

Ian started a thread on pirate asking people would want to see. I agree that 90% of the time they are doing things that don't really interest me but at least they're trying.

My "favorite" episode was where they built that completely useless "all show, no go" Colorado with the fancy paintjob, and immediately took it out on a trail and backed it into a tree.

i hear you completely, the show started with great potential, ie: fab work, everyday usage products, etc; but like all, sold out to sponsorship. I cant stand to watch that show anymore. The show isnt even 'extreme' anymore, its bolting together sponsored products.

I feel just the opposite. It started out totally sucking with some lame bolt on lifts (F250 project), the cheap jeep (teraflex front and rear), etc. But if you watch the latest season it was the best yet. They spent an episode on setting up gears. The episode where the swapped rockwells (with pinion brake) under the budget buggy was good too. I liked the 609 hybrid axle episode. I liked the show that went over roll cage construction. Really, almost every show this season was good.

I would like to see the show slow down even more. Something closer to New Yankee Workshop but for 4x4s. Show every step, every jig, etc.
