I have a 95 Ford F-150 that is not running right, and was hoping someone can help with this. For starters my dad has already had a guy work on it and spent tons of money and has got nothing but more problems. First of all the problem is the check engine light goes on and off and it runs terrible. It spits and sputters alot when u first give it gas and then after you mash it to the floor after 10 sec. or so it jumps and gives full power. My dad took it in to a shop an they ran the codes and said it was a bad Mass air flow sensor so they replaced it and still the same. Then they said the fuel pump in the front tank was not working right and replaced it. Now it still does it and they screwed up the gas gauge where they wired it wrong and after fixing the wiring it still doesn't work. I know one wire is suppose to have current but none of them do so I think they shorted something out, so does anyone know what could be shorted out for the fuel gauge not to work? The remote start and cruise quit working as well and I am almost positive its related. Also has anyone else had this problem with a truck stalling and running rough? o2 sensor maybe? Sorry for the long paragraph.

Thanks
Brad

What code is it setting now? Are you using an aftermarket air filter like a K&N? If so, make sure it is not over oiled, the excess oil has been know to contaminate the MAF sensor.

When they replaced the fuel pump, did they do the whole module or just the pump? If just the pump was replaced, the sending unit was probably damaged.

What you are describing sounds like either air or fuel delivery problem, or a restricted exhaust. If fuel pressure, air delivery and exhaust backpressure check out ok you can start looking at base engine problems such as low compression.

No K&N filter. More info on the fuel pump: They replaced the sending unit after the original install because they thought that might be the problem and it still doesn't work. i have pin pointed it to electrical and heres why. When they installed it Ford doesn't carry the same pump anymore you have to put a new one in and get a wiring harness to replace it but the stupid mechanic wired it wrong the first time and shorted something out but I don't know what.

Also as far as running goes, i don't think it is compression or serious engine problems just because it runs fine sometimes and others it stumbles really bad. I guess I am going to have to pay to have the codes ran again I am just trying to avoid spending money on it. My dad has already spent way to much already on parts he didn't need before I got involved.

95's dont have MAF sensors, well at least mine doesnt. give a little more info about your truck, engine and tranny. i have a 5.8 in mine and it did kinda the same as you have described and then it finall quit. i ended up replacing the pickup in the distributor. have you guys check that yet. might help you out. but get us somemore info on your truck.

sounds like you need ot take it to a competent shop, very very very rarely have I ever seen a fuel pump give signs of poor runability do to pump pressure (in a gas truck) and it is easiy checked by putting a fuel guage on it. Only exception to this would be in a high presure fuel system like a vortec motor.

It is the 5.0 motor, and 2wd. I am going by what my dad told me on the MAF sensor so I will have to look at it. I have not had time to personaly work on it but plan to very soon. Just thought I would get some ideas before I start. Yes the shop he took it to is a bunch of retards if I do say so myself. According to my dad he said they found 2 codes and one was a MAF sensor and he didn't know the other code so he said it must be a bad MAF sensor and there was like $200 dollars of my dads money waated and it just got worse from there.

My suburban had similar runability problems, I finally tracked it down to the map sensor, I unplugged it and it cleared right up, I found the throttle body vacuum port was clogged up.

There is also a chance that they may have installed a bad MAF sensor.

I,ve got the same problems with my 95 F150 302 eod trans the codes reader said i need a new pcm that the one in my truck was bad I will get one next week and will lit u now if it works

A little update guys, I found a site (www.fordf150.net) that showed me how to read the codes with a wire and got a few codes. Number one I got a lean o2 sensor code so i'll be replacing that as soon as I get a chance, and also a Canister purge solenoid (CANP) code which I have no clue about except its part of the emisions....so hopefully that will strighten out with the o2 sensor but if not I will check the TPS sensor next and go from there.

An o2 lean code does not necessarily mean that the o2 sensor is bad. The o2 sensor is telling you that the engine is running lean This is going to be a vacuum leak, which coincides with the sputtering. I would check around the pcv hose, egr valve sticking. Look at the vacuum diagram under the hood, and trace out each vacuum line and check for breaks, or cracks.

Hello my name is Chis and I'm a full time mechanic, I've run across this problem before. Other than the codes in it I would check for vacuum leaks first, they might be messing with mass air flow sensor and the O2. The fuel pump they screwed-the-poach, make them fix it right. If you don't have any vacuum leaks check the plug wires, on that 5.0 if they are nice and neat (right next to each other) they can cause what is known as an inductive misfire. It's pretty common in ford engines. You want to reroute to wires as far away as you can from each other. Looks like crap with wires all over the place but it works. (inductive misfire- spark jumps between wires, fires wrong cyl). If that doesn't work tear down the front of the engine and check the timing mechanism. can't remember if it's a chain or gears?

I have a Blue-Point Ya3120 CanOBD 2&1 Tool

ihave the same problems with my 95 F150 302 eod trans
i get 2 codes on my truck 1 is

DTC:412 Cannot control RPM during KOER high RPM check

DTC:538 1. Insufficient RPM change during KOER dynamic Response/Test
2. (trucks only) invalid cylinder balance test due to throttle movement during test

mybe this will help both of us to get these trucks up and running

Hopefully those tips will help. I've been thinking about it and I think that it is more than likely a vacuum leak (a big one).

Good luck

Sorry, I forgot to update this. I changed the o2 sensor, was the original, and so far so good. Runs smooth with no dash lights so im happy. Now I have to track down the fuel pump wiring and see what they fried...
