OK, so I have a '00 F 250, 7.3 6 spd.

The factory clutch was slipping a little so I put a Valair clutch in it. I think it was rated at around 500 HP or so.

A couple weeks ago it felt like the pressure plate was shot. I sent it down to David Minton to get the clutch swapped. He called be back and said the clutch was fine but the fork was bent / broke. I'm thinking "Cool, I just saved a few hundred bucks" Then he tells me that he can't find one any where. Ford has over 700 on back order and it could be as far as 6 months out. Now I'm thinking "WTF!?"

So, my question is. Has anybody else ran into this? Apparently nobody makes a replacement. Finding a used one is going to be nearly impossible. I could probably fix and reinforce the factory one but I don't know the exact shape.

Any ideas?

It's an expensive route, but you could upgrade to a dual disc. Chances are it'll come with a new clutch fork since the pressure plate is different.

its a pretty simple mechanism, I'm sure it could be welded up and reinforced if need be. Would one from a ZF-5 work? I got one of those from LMC truck but more than likely the zf-6 is a little different, maybe...

I'm guessing yours is a 99-00? Late 00 and 01+ got an updated clutch fork that was stronger, it is a common problem. I believe my 2000 F250 has a bent clutch fork, I'm going to pull my slave cylinder and measure tomorrow to be sure.

Tousley Ford shows them in stock online for only $27, while you're at it you will probably want to replace the pilot bushing and release bearing, but I'm sure your Valair clutch kit already replaced those pieces. You will want to get the pivot as well.

Yeah the ZF-6 is different.

I will give them a call. Bad thing is we are so busy at work I have no time to go pick one up. Maybe I can get one shipped. If all else fails, I will see what I can do with the bent one.

it's not uncommon for them to bend, i would not weld it or try to strengthen it. if weight is added to it, it is liable to cause uneven wear on the bearing retainer. the bearing retainer is a suspect part on the zf6 anyway. the last 5-6 i have done have all had bad retainers.(and forks)

So where can I get one? David said he couldn't find one at all and nobody makes an after market one. I have been looking on line and can't find anything.

Have you tried the dealership I recommended above...

Not yet. I was gonna call them in the morning.

I might have one. Dylan at aitofair.com found one from an international dealer. The ford # crosses over. It cost a little more, $63 shipped. I will let you know if it works. He also told me that there are now over 800 on back order with Ford. Why the hell isn't somebody making one aftermarket?

this is not uncommon with automakers, i believe they have a 5 year copyright on parts, if it's still in production the retain the copyright.(all part of the bailout)
i have seen a clutch drum for a cd4e(ford-mazda trans) on backorder for 2 years, the ones that re-manned were pure junk.

I just heard from Dylan at autofair, apparently there was a mix up with crossing over the part #. I'm back at square one.

I have one on order with Trosley Ford but I'm not having any luck getting hold of them to see if they actually had one to ship.

If all else fails, I may have to straighten and weld the old one.
