I have a 2000 F250 V10 with ~120,000miles. The other night it started to run rough at idle. Sounds like a missfire- really sounds like the truck has a wicked Cam in it. Runs fine up and down the road except when I come to a stop- the miss goes away when you run the rpm up over ~1000-1200.

No codes. Ran a full diagnostic at a local shop and it only showed intermittent missfires, but could not pinpoint the problem.

I have cleaned the IAC, replaced the spark plugs and coils. Cleaned the MAF, reset computer... I am clueless. Any other ideas?

Fuel filter?

the egr port that goes in the throttle body neck is bad about getting cloged, also the coils are prone to go bad.check engine light?

Did you use motorcraft plugs? If not replace new ones with motorcraft then try again.

Replaced 2 coils and moved 2 new ones around the motor to find the another bad one with no luck. the first 2 I replaced had torn boots. New spark plugs (NGK). No motorcraft in stock locally. NGK's worked on other trucks. I also have them in my Dodge that takes a beating off road.

No idiot lights are on. No EGR on this truck.

Haven't changed the fuel filter- I thought that lack of fuel would show in a lack of power and missfire at all rpms not just idle.

I usually start with the cheap and easy when I am clueless. :flipoff2:

I started there, but it's going to get out of control if i don't solve it soon.

The fuel filter requires some special Ford tool- anyone ever done one? where can I get the tool besides a stealership?

I have never changed a fuel filter on a v10 but most fords just take a fuel/ a/c disconnect tool that slides up the line and releases the clamp inside the fitting.

This can be bought cheap at any local auto parts store, there are a couple different styles/sizes, you should probably pick up the assorted pack to make sure you get the right size.
