Trying to get some ideas on where to do on a short little vacation sometime the first of October. Looking to leave on a Friday and come back on a Monday. Wanting to fly to somewhere out of Raleigh for the cheaper flights. I have been to NY, FL, TX, NV, and GA. I was thinking about Boston or Philly, since I love history...I thought it would be neat to see that area. Getting around is gonna be key. I don't want to have to rent a car, because I am trying to make this an affordable trip and its only for 3 nights. I kind of want to go someplace where its not freezing but cool and see the leaves change and fall and I figure that Boston might be the place to go.

I'd say Boston or somewhere in New England area. If you like history, another neat place to go is Charleston, SC. In October it's cool and not hot and there is a lot of history/ghost walks/etc.

I would say Boston. I have been there many times, and its a clean city, and lots of stuff to do with great food.

Boston would give you history, but you won't see much leaf color unless you drive out of the city.

This is just my two cents, but I feel like if you are gonna go to the hassle of getting on a plane (with everything that entails these days), then you oughta make it count. I say go to Denver, catch a shuttle up to Boulder and go walking on their trails, or go to Phoenix, catch a shuttle to Prescott, Flagstaff or Sedona (heh Pink Jeep Tour heh). Both are nonstops for Southwest, and usually pretty cheap.
