Falling off Black Bear Pass

I’ve actually ridden on this trail. Crazy freak accident! Driver parked his Jeep to get out and spot another. His girlfriend and 2 dogs were still inside when it popped out of gear and rolled over the ledge. Never can be too careful.

I saw an article about the wreck and recovery last week, but that video is unreal. Thank goodness he had an overland rack on top or that jeep would be scrap!

Saw the article and pics last week. Jeep was almost unrecognizable at the bottom. Good thing dude in the video stopped and didn’t get pushed down the mountain as well.

Was just talking about this with the guys over at Outlaw Off-road this morning. That trail, along with Imogene Pass and others are not technical and hard, but they are dangerous and must be done with caution and respect. Hoping for a speedy recovery for both. Certainly wouldn’t have survived if she hadn’t been ejected.

If you haven't driven the trails around Ouray and Telluride, to say they are exposed and high stakes is an understatement. Not difficult but if things go wrong... they go way wrong.

Bullshit, he left it out of gear accidentally, AND didn't set the emergency brake, and it about cost him his girlfriend's life.

I take it the dogs didn't survive?

Both dogs survived. One was missing a few days but eventually showed back up. Not sure if you'll ever get them back in a jeep again though!

Edit: I read the dogs were fine, he got thrown trying to steer it away from ledge from the outside and had minor injuries, gf got thrown a little further down the mountain and has spinal cord injuries, was in serious condition, but I think I saw that she was able to take a wheelchair out of the hospital to visit the missing dog after it showed up.
