Wow... I love this show... but tonights episode is really pushing the envelope of decency/bad taste for public network TV.

... or am I just getting old?

I would have figured you were too intelligent to watch that show. Maybe I'm smarter than I think??

took some hits at the Jewish religion. Just poking at stereotypical stuff, I thought it was pretty funny.

was the old "wish upon a weinstein" episode?
Just watched it. No, Lois found out she was Jewish. That was after Peter had an affair with a cardboard Kathy Ireland cutout and Quagmire found out about internet porn. Another classic! Giggity! :D

No it's where Lois finds out she's actually Jewish and Peter starts wanting to be. Then his dead father shows up as a ghost and tells him he's a bad catholic. Then Peter goes on a tirade to torture Lois for being Jewish.

I love Family Guy and it's one of my favorites but when he starts in on the whole religion bit it makes not want to watch. The thing is that it's not just this episode. He's done it before but not as bad. He always portrays God as a womanizer at bars picking up women. He also draws scenes from the bible and makes the bad people seem justified.

A buddy of mine that lives in New York and is in the movie business once told me that you had to find the most contraversial subject that offends people and make jokes about it and that's good comedy. Making jokes about Jewish people and taking scenes from Shindler's List wasn't funny to me.

Ok, that part was funny. Quagmire's left arm is ripped!

thanks chuck. i just watched the episode. i thought it was funny.

you dont know how many people will argue with you when you say Jesus was a Jew.

The cool thing about family guy is that they weave childishness and sophistication together and make the jokes work on a way only they can. There are alot of references in that show that many people dont even get. Like the schindlers list, and the Moon of Endor joke.

Yes, peter and stewie are over the top suspension of non belief characters, but then you have lois and brian and even cleveland to anchor the show back down to reality.

Im always impressed at how well they sneak the jokes into the dialogue. Most sitcoms are so predictable it makes them unbearable to watch.

The reference to Quagmire not getting his on spin off was great!

yeah, im curious to see it. i havent really felt like clevelend was strong enough of a character to anchor a show by himself.

quagmire would of been better, but....and this isnt racist, just an obvservation...since the media is going with more and more black characters on tv since Obama got in office, and the creators to lean more to the liberal side i think the cleveland character was chosen for this reason.

let me clarify that a little more so it doesnt sound like im a cross burning racists, lol

going black in the main stream media is the thing to do and i think the family guy creators are jumping on the band wagon. Im thinking they are going to pay for that in ratings loss because of the weaker character.

The background characters in the family are going to have to play a large role if the show is to be entertaining in the least. i dont think cleveland brings enough to the table. And then, if it an animated sitcom staring a hapless father and side plots staring the family and friends.....well....then you just have family guy.....living in an urban setting rather then suburban.

a boring remake of something thats already working well.

now that i think about it. ALOT will be lost without brian and stewie. Most of the good jokes are one liners from the two of them. all the sophistaced humor and obscure references are written for their characters.

the only funny stuff cleveland can pull of is mother in law jokes, and the premis of the new show is that he has left loretta and has a new wife.

Cleveland is known for his semi depressed dry humor. With loretta gone, will they change that? are they going to develop his personality more and show us some facets of cleveland than what we have seen repeated over and over in the past 8 seasons?

i think thats the only way they could make the show survive, reword the cleveland character to be something totally different.

But...if they do that, at what point does it cease to be a spin off

I usually get all the movie and religious jokes, especially the refrences to "star wars", its just the political jokes I dont get sometimes......
