I need to get the fan and clutch off a 97 5.7 vortec motor. Looks like I need a tool with 2 pins to keep the water pump from turning. I can't find one, anyone know any tricks to get it off? I asume it's left hand thread since it's reverse rotation.

edit
"off" vortec

leave belt installed, ( or reinstall if able) wrench that fits nut, hit with small beater hammer (2.5lb beater) down and to the pass side of vehicle all in the same motion, may take a few blows, will spin right off once loose.

Pulley turns reverse of crank, this TIGHENING the fan clutch on as it spins, so you need to spin in same direction of rotation to loosen

There's a tool to rent from AutoZone if I remember correctly from when I changed mine.

If I were you, I'd just take the fan off and put electric when you do, assuming you aren't already.

That didn't work. Big wrench, big hammer and belt+strap wrench did.

Thanks.

Got you a motor for your junk? Or is this for Sambo's..

I ended up making a tool when I had to change the water pump on my Hoe. I couldn't find the correct loan-a-tool anywhere. Worked out good in the end because I had to do the job twice due to a bad pump from NAPA.

use a air hammer with a long chisel always works for me taking off or putting it back on.
