I need sum basics on how to go about hardwireing my fan with a switch.. Do I just cut wire behind the OEM connector and splice into it like that? what kind of wire should i use and do I just get sum water proof wire nuts for the splice? Yea Just need sum pointers on the basic way to set it up. Thank You

01 jeep XJ, so I just cut the wire and tape up the old wire and connect to new wire of same gauge wire inside to a switch and from the switch to battery? so with the switch off it will not drain battery? Im electrically retarded...

Why do you want to wire a switch? On my 02 WJ, the electric fan relay went bad and failed to the 'on' position, drained the battery. The relay was like $20 and a simple plug and play. Here's a pic of what I did:

In the long run, you'll be happier if you fix it right the first time.
If you do wire a switch, make sure it is on a 'switched' circuit, in other words, make sure it only has power when the vehicle is running. It would be awfully easy to forget to turn the fan off and drain the battery.

If you are doing it to fix a problem the best solution would be to fix it correctly. I assumed you wanted to do it as an upgrade. What is wrong the it now? Maybe we can start by finding out the original problem. Is the fan not working?

my problem is I have replaced the relay and the fuse and its still not working I replaced the relay and then the blower for the heat/ac stoped working I have no idea why, The jeep overheated and blew a head gasket, I put new gasket and radiator in and it was spitting codes for the TPS sensor and coolent temp sensor replaced them and the jeep runs like a champ besides now the fan is not coming on and when I replaced the relay the blower stopd working soo Im lost as to what to do any ideas?

The problem with your inside blower may be the switch. I've seen them go bad before. Could also be the final stage (resistor). Get an electrical meter and see if you've got power at the connector for the fan when it's switched on. (You can do this for both fans) Then, if You don't have power at the fan, see if you've got power at the control side of the relay and at the output of the relay.

Yea we are, Its just that when I put the new relay in for the Fan the blower for the heat and ac stopd working, I have no idea why that would have effected the blower... Does anyone know how hot the engine needs to be for the fan to come on? I went and drove d snot out of it for like 45 mins and cant get it to go above 210... but it should still come on right? IDK... that diagram is very helpful Thanx

You can't get the engine temp above 210? That's probably OK. Do you have AC? If so, turn that on. Electric fan should definitely come on then.

The electric fan isnt coming on even with ac on.. The blower...yea I pulled the switch out last night and a shit ton of mud and sand came out from when I sank it about a year ago, so Im thinkn thats the problem just odd how it stopd working the same time.. going to get a new switch for that now

Got power to the motor? You said it's been submerged, there could be grit in the brushes.

Are you the one with the XJ? If so, does it have 3 control knobs like a TJ? Which switch did you replace? The speed selector switch switches the speeds, but the mode control switch is what actually supplies the power.
