As the wife and I are slowly aging, growong vertically, and adding small passengers, climbing into the back of the 4Runner is getting to be more of a pain (Especially since the child seat in the front passenger prevents that one from moving).

I'm wondering if anybody knows what THE farthest forward-sliding seat from a car (or truck) is. e.g. slides forwrad the most on a track so you can get into the back. I'm talkin' like something that will be hitting the steering wheel.

Bolt-in would be nice but thus far I've found nothing from Toyota that is really any better. I'm assuming something from a small 2-door. The hard part seems to be quantifying the total track travel etc.

Depending how fancy the interior is, I saw a buggy build on pirate the other day where they put the seat mounts on tube, then used smaller diameter tube (part of the chassis) that the seat tube sleaves. So basically the seat can slide forward and backwards on the smaller tube. At many points the tube was crossdrilled and they used pins or bolts to hold the seat in that position. Good idea for a buggy or jeep, but not something that'd be pretty in a daily driver 4runner.

I always though TJ seats moved forward pretty far, between the track slide and the way they will flip toward the front and then hit the recliner lever and they will lean. In fact, you can't get all three functions to move to full forward together cus the dash is in the way...if you had it mounted farther back they'd move pretty dawgon far.

This isn't a DD, and being "perty" isn't Priority #1... however since it needs to be simple to do (e.g. wife to just pop into back) I'm not sure that would do it. Great idea though.

I'd looked into the Jeep seats for just that reason. Unfortunately what I've read (maybesomebody can chime in on this) is that they tend to sit pretty high, and when put in a Toyota put your head near the ceiling and give a really funky vantage point. Don't know if all TJs are like that though?

Yeah I didn't think of the height and if you try to shorten them...you're gonna end up undoing the ability to fold forward. Pretty sure all the TJ brackets are the same. Sorry.

Dodge Neon seats. Comfy and flippable. Very popular mod in the Sammi world. Even the 4-door seats can be made to flip like the 2-door seats. Plus, they'll slide as far forward as you want as long as you take that into account when you mount them. No offense, but neither you nor your wife is really large in stature. You don't need to make the mounts as if I'm going to be driving the truck, fab them to suit your needs! Now that you can weld, all you have to do is think about it! If you need any help or some scraps for brackets, call me.

You guys are funny. It's not so much about just being able to get back there - yeah, both of us can fit. It's when a buddy comes along who is bigger than me. Maybe I'm just too nice of a guy, I dunno.
Part of the problem is actually with the added height; she's only 5' tall, and has leg mobility problems, even with the addition of rocker rails she has a hard enough time getting in.
See, the thing is, she's more willing to let me keep adding onto this thing and building it up as long as its fun for her to ride in. If it's a pain for her, she'll make it a pain for me. So it's in my best interest to run with that...

Oh and Dave if yer gonna be on thr road I don't think you really want her driving.

Do you happen to know what the actual track movement distance is?

In a worst-case scenerio, since I AM not too long-legged, I oculd always just move the driver'ss seat forward so that I sit at the max distance. Just not ideal for those off-chances when somebody else needs to drive.
