Well he was required to pull a permit before he began working in your home.
If you had done the work yourself you would not have needed a permit.
This is in no way a knock at the contractor, but I would be very leary of a contractor who would risk a $5000 fine and 6 months suspension of his license 9and ability to earn a living) for a $650 job and a $20 permit.
You and your family can get in major trouble if the wrong company works on your home. For instance if he doesnt carry the proper bonding and insurance requirements and him or an employee gets injured (or God forbid killed) in your home, you and your family are liable to him or his estate.
Again I am not knocking this contractor, I don't even know who you are using, but I see this crap everyday.
I have turned down many jobs because a homeowner didn't want to "fool with" permits. As recently as Wednesday I turned down an A/V only job in The Point that had roughly $15k in margin in it, because the HO didnt want permits.
So MAKE SURE your dad asks all the tough questions before they come back in your home, it is not always "friendly" but it is NECESSARy
