Who makes the fire extinguisher quick-connects for the cage? The ones where one piece hose clamps to the cage tube, the other piece hose clamps to the extinguisher body, and the extinguisher gets pinned in place? Rob Klinger made a bunch of them at one point... dunno who sells them now.

I like the DIY kits, which IIRC Tony referred to as the "chinese puzzle torture thingy"

That's what I'm talking about. Can't find anybody selling them, though.

Chris Marshall, maybe...? But a search turned up nothing.

scared to death!!!!!

If you have access to cutting tools and a drill press, making one out of some strips of 3/16 really isn't that hard.
That said, I bought a kit and welded it myself :D
Seems like it was fr om a guy in AL that was selling 'em, a like on the ECORS subforum.. .that was years ago though.

I still have a couple laying around.

Scott at Mudpro has my dxf file and cut all of them out for me. I think he's tweaked it a little and still has the file to cut them out.

I'm sure Chris at Marsfab can do some to. I think he has a file as well.

And maybe some tire shine for good measure.

Finally got the buggy back running and now finishing out the prep and its this time...

Thought Id post some shat here for the benefit of all. Last November at Windrock I had a power steering fluid puke fire...had a spotter standing by the front tire, handed him a brand new fire extinguisher....and nothing happened. Luckily Snappy was just up the trail threw one back and the fire was put out. (Thanks to some quick reflexes by Travis Wilson on that one!)...Well in doing my research I learned something that is probably old news..but apparently all Kidde and First Alert fire extinguishers use a plastic pick up tube that is pressed into the bottom of the nozzle. Its prone to falling out and yeah..you discharge the CO2 charge but no propellant. Lesson learned stay away from retail fire extinguishers for a trail rig.

Post 44 illustrates this well

Next item...how to mount the damn thing. This is going to be personal preference but here are the options I've ran across.

http://www.quadratec.com/products/98003_1900.htm
Pro: looks good. is anodized aluminum so no rust issues, pull handle is larger in case it does stick. Less rattling parts.
Cons: a little big for packing in small buggies.

http://www.trophygirldesigns.com/products/fireextinguishermounts.htm
Pro: smaller size. Has a T handle instead of the pull pin. Again more leverage in case of binding. Available in Aluminum or stainless. will put cut you logo custom into it.
Cons: You can find cheaper. Like all of this design its going to rattle a bit and make noise.

Another option. Like having the roll bar mount...but doesnt list a price

Like the knob handle more leverage without a sharp edge to catch... supposedly zinc plated less rust issues.

Brings the bling

FOA copied the drake design and marked it up $10 (just kidding, sort of. they do have a different spring design. You can choose which style you like better)

http://ors4x4.com/Fire-Extinguisher...um-Fire-Extinguisher-Quick-Release-BLACK.html
An all billet take on the basic classic design, available in polished or anodized black again no rust issues. I wish this had deeper recesses for the band clamps to keep the mount from sliding in the clamp.

An entirely different option. Great price. adding the tube mount makes for a slick package...I'm uneasy about the rubber "latch" wearing out.

http://axiaalloys.com/Quick release...lb extinguisher?filter_name=fire extinguisher
Another entirely different idea. A single 2 prong pull pin. I suspect this would make a ton of noise and be a bit tougher to re holster...but a neat option

http://www.rdmoffroad.com/billet-universal-quick-release-bracket.aspx
Another option. Personally i think this just tried too hard. The hidden clamp hardware seems neat enough...but how do you tighten it down? With a wrench in 1/16th turns.

All Star Performance went and got theirs NHRA certified...complete with mounting clamps.

Cheap price

Simple basic cheap

The UTV guys all seem to rave about this...I think there are better options

Cool but over priced

http://www.kartek.com/Product/1757/Heavy-Duty-Fire-Extinguisher-Mount.aspx
BEEFY.

Another option

I'd be remiss if I didnt at least list this one.

The guy is all over Pirate and claims to have invented the entire concept and everyone else stole his idea.
Other than the fact he is using a bulk grade bolt as his pivot I guess its the same as everyone else fopr only slightly more money.

This list isn't exhaustive but it covers all the "different ideas" I've found and compiles them in one easy searchable spot.

I also think something we all need to think about is how much fire extinguisher are we carrying. If you get a fuel fire even a 2.5 lb'er is pissing on a wildfire. One thing I take note of is Derek West now runs (3) 5lb fire extinguishers and a 2.5 on his rig....given his experience..well I'll just say I took note.

If it's just for your trail rig and not specified by Race Regulations or anything. I used Dog collars with Quick release latches on them. Tied the Bottle to the rear OE roll bar on the bottom side of the bar. Worked great. Easy access point and they pop off fast. I didn't get around to it, but I wanted to permanently attach the collar to the bar. Screw it down or rivet it to the roll bar.

My concern there is the plastic clip holding.
I remember an unamed event at DPG several years ago and an XJ coming down hard on the nose. The fire extingusiher was mounted similarly in the very back of the XJ and came THROUGH the front windshield. I dont frequently wear a helmet when trail riding and I dont want a fire extinguisher to the back of the head
