Just saw this morning the CPSC listed a recall involving two styles of Kidde fire extinguishers: plastic handle fire extinguishers and push-button Pindicator fire extinguishers. This is a huge recall involving extinguishers that were manufactured from January 1973 and August 2017. I have extinguishers in my home, truck, Jeep & wife's Jeep that are affected. I'm sure many of you have extinguishers in your Jeeps, trucks, cars, buggies, trailers, homes, RVs, motor homes, etc. Please, please check the links below to the CPSC website and the Kidde website and see if your extinguishers are affected.

Eesh.. isn't Kidde the brand that practically everyone owns?
I like my Buckeye brand much better now.

Yea - Kidde is probably the one most everyone owns because they are in so many brick and mortar stores, and because the models they sell in those stores are lower cost than if you purchased an extinguisher from a fire equipment distributor. One could make the old argument that you get what you pay for.

I'm partial to Amerex, but I was mech/elec assembly technician for the company that designed/built their automated assembly equipment in the mid '90s so I'm biased. I don't even know how many hundreds of pounds of siliconized monoammonium phosphate I discharged into the air out of the back of the building, just drifting like a fog bank out into the sky. I can still taste it, slightly salty and a little metallic.
I saved a small pile of dented/dropped empty 10 pound cans and used them for backwoods plinking over the years.

How in the world do you recall 45 years worth of products?

Pretty sure I have one of these in my camper and one in the shop at the house. I'll have to check.

On a different note, I interviewed for a design engineer position at Kidde a while back. The lady told me if I wasn't prepared to work long hours it wasn't the job for me. She was like "if you are on vacation and I need you here, you better be prepared to leave on a Saturday to work till Monday if I need you."

Maybe that's why they have bad design, they only get the designers who can't get a job anywhere else.

I used to work there and I think I know the lady you’re talking about.
