i have a 2.5 lb Halotron extinguisher in the back of the Runner, but I'd liek to get a small one to keep within reach.
I got one of these

really cheap, a "fire extinguising spray"... it essentially the foaminess in an aresol-type can. Was prett ycheap, figured it's be good to keep in the cars at least.

Wondeirng if anybody has actual experience w/ them?
After osme thought, I realized it dosn't have an auto pressure release valve or anything to keep it from exploding liek a regular extinguisher. Then i wodner if it might be a problem given the kind of shaking and heat (e/g/ sitting around in the sun) in a vehicle used for offroad driving/racing...?
Or am I just being paranoid.

a dry chem. extinguisher is bad enough to clean up, even being a dry powder, at liquid to that and you got a gooey corrosive mess.

An aerosol can in a center console or exposed with out a GOOD cover is pretty vulnerable, and a foam extinguisher will be messy if needed or accidentally discharged.

normal extinguishers are hard enough to keep at a ready state in a moving vehicle, I replace sealed dead extinguishers all the time at work, and have in my own vehicles as well. most have the metal head on them.

10# CO2 with a metal nozzle. If it bleeds off or gets used, you can have it refilled.

And a metal bracket to bolt it down.

I already have a decent sized BC Halotron in the back, that's the gas-type w/o the corrosive mess business, nice metal handle mounted on quick-release straps etc. That's covered.
The problem is b/c its size i didn't have a good place to mount within immediate reach. Now trust me, in emergency I can get back there to in under under a few seconds and it is reachable by somebody in teh back w/o even removing a belt.... however (a) that dosn't meet the tech requirements for some racing orgs and (b) that style isn't good for plain brush fires or anything outside in wind. so this is literally just to essenetially buy me a few seconds to get to the bigger one if needed or teh rare case where it isn't appropriate.

What I'm more concerned/curious about is how this can is different from a classic extinguisher, and if the shaking etc is a problem (or maybe, not?) Only warnings on the canister are regarding being under pressure, don't puncture etc. Nothing about avoiding high temps or shaking...?

it's only 14 fl Oz and about the size of a large Monster can, but they claim 4x teh spray time of a sall extinguisher.

Actually, now I see it also has a "NO CFCs" label. Wonder how it works.
