Fireplace heat reflectors..

...to put on the back wall of the fireplace, I see them made of cast iron and SS for sale, would mild steel work as well as SS?
 
I looked into this before and never went through with it If my memory serves me right I think you could use either. The big part is the 1" (maybe that right maybe not) air gap between the metal and the drywall so the hest can dissipate.

I was looking at putting in a bigger stove and maintaining the same hearth and pipe. The stove spec'd offsets for drywall and heatshield .

I'm looking to put one in a brick fireplace to send more heat into the room instead of up the chimney, until I can get another wood stove.
 
What about an insert until then? Good insert w a blower can really put out some heat. It will probably sell, sail, cell for what you would pay for it down the road. Heck, I gave one away not long ago.
 
My dad got a Stainless Steel one and said it made a world of difference.
 
wood stove inserts are damn nice! We have one with a small blower and it head the living room two bedrooms and the bathroom pretty good. Or just open the doors like a fireplace.
