First time flying

What about a camera?
Will also be leaving my car there, how expensive is that? Monday morning till probably Friday morning

No problem with the camera, just put it in your carry-on bag, toss the entire bag on the X-ray conveyer belt.
Parking in Greensboro airport is $6-7 /day, not sure about CLT. They get you for more if you park in the garage since its even sheltered. Even the top deck is considered "sheltered", I've lost that argument before. The GSO parking cost can be found on the intraweb, I'm too lazy to search right now.

Car at Charlotte Douglas is I think $12/day.
Check out seatguru.com input the plane type, airline etc. and it will tell you where to move your seat to.

you will be shocked how much this can help with leg room

Most has been mentioned previously, but..

From someone who flies often:

- I like to get to the airport ~2hrs before take-off, jic... you haveto check in by 1 hr prior.
- If staying for an extended time, park in Long Term. Its ~$4/day & has regular buses, so ~$20, they take cash or credit. Take the Little Rock or Billy Graham exits...
- wear slip-on shoes or sandals/flipflops
- have your quart size, clear, ziplock easily accessible w/ 3oz or less containers
- make sure you have your photo i.d. & boarding pass out
- depending on how you bought the flight, (online) use the self check-in kiosks... it's much faster... you can also check-in online the night before, but it warrants searches sometime (if you have a long string of S's on your boarding pass, youll get stopped)... WHEN CHECKING IN, TRY TO GET AN ISLE OR WINDOW SEAT IF YOU DON'T ALREADY...
- place everything in your pockets & belt into your carry-on (except boarding pass & ID). It'll make security check faster.
- if you are taking electronics, leave them in the bag (camera & gps), except laptops, they get a separate bin
- take music w/ good headphones or a book... your flight shouldnt be long, but they are boring... if you get distracted, take ear plugs... I can normally tune out the drone, & sleep often on planes...
- just relax. there are things that delay flights often, but not much you can do, so no sense getting all stressed about it...

I know it's a stretch, but they DO SELL toothbrushes, toothpaste, & toiletries in Mississippi! The $4 you spend at Walgreens THERE will save you $10 worth of headaches HERE!

Bulkhead or emergency exit seat if you're flying in the cattle section, more leg room.
X2! A whole lot of legroom!
Try to put your carry on in a compartment about a row or two in front of your seat. When the jet hits the gate everybody stands up at once and it`s very hard to get to your carry on if it`s behind you.

x2, or better yet, put it under the seat if it fits. you wont loose much foot space anyways... I hate getting on the plane & cant fit your bag because a bunch of ppl put their laptops/purses & coats in the overhead

WOW- GREAT tip!
I fly all the time and never thought about that.
Come to think of it I think I've always been lucky and stowed it ahead of my seat, lol, or typically my backback I just squeeze under the seat in front of me.

try an figure out if your Given Name and or any nicknames you maybe knows as ( Alias' ) are of a terrorist watch list. it sounds obsurd, I know, my brother in law and his 8 year old son have names that appear on the list, and they are searched EVERY TIME they fly. As in taken behind the partition searched.

BIL looked up the suspected terroists names and found that the fellow who shares his name is in his thirties, and his sons name is shared by a 48yo man. There is you Homeland security at work for ya !!!

just another thing to think about

Haha..no kidding. my frst and middle names are Richard Reid. i cant make it through security EVER!!!

If your anyting like me the first time I flew you will not need magazines or anyting. You'll be to busy looking at the clouds and ground in amazement. It's awesome to fly. Try not to be nervous. Your probably safer in that plane than you will be in that worn out rattle trap Uhaul you'll be driving back.

how many uhauls have terrorist blown up......

wait....

bad example, lol.

haha..ive never thought about that....probably the only thing blown up as much as airplanes is Uhaul trucks. and your taking one of each!

I don't mind flying. I have flown several times, and its the easiest way to travel. Way better then driving a Uhaul over a few states.

:driver:

Well, I survived!
Learned a few things.
Window seats are over rated, they are made for kids! Trying to look out was difficult as it was belly level to me.
If you are over 5'6" and 150lbs, you are uncomfortable.
Everyone is friendly, except for the young lady from Virgina, that was traveling back to Texas to see family. Oh and she was seated next to me.
Airport security is lacking. Never checked out to see what electronics I had in my bag. Scanner didn't pick up on my metal plate in my neck or wire in my chest.
If you have a connecting flight, it will be at opposite ends of the airport.
The person seated in front of you will keep bouncing back, driving your already buried knee's deeper in the back of her seat.
At 35K feet you can't tell the difference in mountains and flat land.
They are very proud of the food in the airport restaurants
If you walk on the moving sidewalk, you exit it running

The trip back was long, about 15 hours. The U-haul truck was nice. 48K on the clock and had a 6.8L engine. towing a trailer with a Mazda, I was able to maintain 70-75 the whole way back. Drawbacks were it only had about 25 gallon tank. But, it ran well on 87 octane. With my future daughter n law and her 5 year old, extra stops were needed, so it wasn't too big of a deal.

My son bought me a GPS. I have never used one, and let me tell ya, it's like cheating! All the way back easy highways and clear routes. I only missed the turn for the by-pass in Atlanta due to not being able to get over. My RV will now have a new speedometer

Oh Dear God that annoys the PISS out of me. DON'T BE THAT GUY!!!! When the Capt. Turns off the Seatbelt light at the Gate, EVERYONE Jumps up to get their bag and get off the plane. What they seem to fail to understand is that it takes about 3-4 minutes to get the stairs or Gangway connected to the plane, then another 5 minutes for anyone to get moving. Just stay seated YOU'RE NOT GETTING OFF RIGHT THEN!!! :shaking:

Actually those are the best, most accurate tips I read this entire thread!

They can see the electronics in your bag when you toss it on teh nelt and it goes through their scanner.
FYI the plate in your kneck isn't steel, it'll be titatnium or some alloy... so a metal detector won't pick it up.
Same w/ what's in your chest.
Think of all the people w/ shit implanted in their bodies, if they went off for everything then it would not be very useful

If you have never flown...you are in for a treat. It's a magazine called Sky Mall. There are so many cool and useless things for you to buy, take the magazine with you when you get off the plane, they are free. Have fun and have a safe trip.

Now you'll be trading the Hilton for a U-Haul I suppose.

Glad you made it home safe.
