Well actually my second, but the first trip was with my 5yr old littl girl, in my wife's tricked out LR4. That trip I made it up wolf den for a short way before I turned around after my brain finally started working and realized if I damaged my wife's car, it would be bad for everyone. Me especially. The kid booed me when I turned around..she was stoked.
Anyway flash forward a few months, I've bought an older LR3. I know there is zero love for LRs and their owners on here, but I needed a daily driver, (that gets driven a lot, for work), that I could do some mild,off-roading with. I'd love to have a big jeep, but it's not in the cards right now. The truck is totally stock right now, but plan on gradually adding some minor mods to make it a little more off-road capable.
So I drove on down to Uwharrie today on a whim. Went to Flatwoods with the goal of doing Falls Dam just to get my feet wet. So up I go. Was going to air down my tires, but for whatever reason, I didn't take the time. It was fun, had a good time, but unfortunately didn't have my little girl with me, she would have loved it. I had a Z71 (I think) behind me... At one point I stopped to get a dip of Copenhagen. Couldn't find it. So I got out to comb my truck, and noticed the guy in the Chevy walking up the trail towards me. I said hello, and asked if I was holding him up. He said "no, just seeing if you were having a problem". I told him my problem was that I couldn't find my cope...I asked him about the trail, and he said he hadn't ever been there before and was just following me. Haha..told him he was following the wrong guy. He said, " I can't believe your up here in a LandRover!" I said why not? And laughed. He asked if I had scraped the bottom of my truck. I said no, and he said he had, and was perplexed cause his truck was taller. Anyway, I guess at that point we agreed to do the rest of the trail together so if one of us noobs messed up,the other could at least commiserate, cause neither one of us had any recovery equipment to help each other.
Rolled on up, my truck did ok. My new partner scraped over several of the roll overs and actually had a little trouble at one spot and took a few attempts to clear. We made it to the top, got out and chatted a bit. Nice guy. I don't think he even had a pass. I did manage to put a nice dent in the stupid running boards that I'm going to be taking off...
Had a good time for what was a really brief visit. I know I'm never gonna do the D trails in the truck, but look forward to getting a few upgrades to make things even better, and maybe explore a few more trails. All the jeep folks were nice enough...did have a comment from some folks camping that I looked like,I was "cadillaci-ing" my way up...lol. Whatever that means. I laughed and asked what he did mean, and he said I just looked comfortable and cushy... Funny.
I did see one of you guys (had a nc4x4 sticker) at one of the parking areas....looks like you were either jump starting someone...or getting jumped yourself. Thanks for waving!
