Fishing in Boone

Go to TN. Its about 30-45 mins from there but its so worth it. There you will find Lake Watauga (which is really a rock quarry filled up, the town of buntler is 150-200 ft at the bottom). Its a huge, awesome, beautiful lake. I havent been to Boone in a min since college but if you know where University highlands is you take that road (105 I beleive)
and just follow that straight into TN. There is a bridge there about 60 Ft. high, very fun to jump off of and very deep (Est. 300 ft). The water is crystal clear and this writeup on the lake tells of how clean the water is.
This is where I am going to buy some property and retire..... next year.. ha ha (wishful thinking).

PS - I havent fished at this lake but I camped on the water when I was there and saw some HUGE fish! Made me wish I had my tacklebox and rod :\

Ok now this thread got me all stoked to go. I am planning some vacation time out now.

If you are interested in trout Fishing....Watauga County has 2 good stocked areas

The new river from the damn to South Fork & Meat Camp Creek above the 194 Bridge.

neither are right in Boone, but both have decent results.

This will give you some more options

I have caught many a good trout on flyrod in the Watauga River, fished alot of it, good stretch between the bridge and Houndears golf club

There are people always fly fishing at the stream in front of my house off of Niley Cook Rd. I've never fished it but I assume its good cause there are always locals there...

Hound's Ear is around where Hebron Rock Colony is.
AWESOME place!

You know how to get to Hebron? Its been about 4 years and I want to go back but cant remember for the life of me how to get there?

Took me a good long time to find it. I searched for about 2 months freshman year, and when I finally thought I found it we went right around dusk and didnt see the big rocks over to the left.

Basically you go down 105 till you see the hounds ear club and turn at the next left. Go down that road till you see a sign for Hebron Clinic, take that right, then go down till you find a dirt road on the right, and follow that till you see all the cars. It should be on your right as well. Follow the trail down till it ends at the creek, then go left between the big rocks till you get up onto the huge rock part of the creek.

Been slaying them in Ashe county. Limits for me and the old man 3 saturdays in a row. Usually by 10am

The road keeps going to the top part of shulls mill, if you turn left at the top you can go to boone, or back down to Hound Ears if you turn right, you end up in blowing rock.
