picked up a set of used spindles for ford d44 and the threads have been whacked with a hammer pretty good. anyone able to fix this either with a thread chaser or really big die?

You should be able to buy a small, hand held thread chaser from any good tool seller. Looks like a file and has thread cutters for eight different pitches.

the one i have is about a half inch thick square thing with 8 different pitches on it but i'm not sure if it will work. seems like i might need something to screw down on it to re cut the threads.

You use it like a file by placing it on the threads and saw it back and forth going all the way around the spindle. I've used one a million times to repair the threads on semi-trailers.

i had a spindle smacked with a hammer on my HD44 and a thread chaser wouldnt touch the damage. the die for that is huge and nobody had one so i just bought a used spindle.

i think that might be what i end up doing. if anyone has a set for hp ford d44 let me know.

How big is it?

Too bad you're not close to Winston Salem, I might be able to chuck it up in my lathe and re-cut the threads.

I'd be willing to try if you signed your life away on waivers.
