If this isn't the right place I apologize, but i need some input. So my old daily driver is on its way to the graveyard and I need a new vehicle.

So the "have to haves":
Has to be 4 door
Of course has to be 4x4
Has to be dependable
Has to mechanically last a while

I had a land rover disco 1 5 speed and loved it, but it developed a death wobble so it had to go byby (didnt have time to fix it)

I've always loved jeeps, but have heard bad things once they get lots of miles on them and they are quite a bit more expensive than lamd rovers and fjs of the same year model.

I love the look, simplicity, and the e-locker of the fj cruiser, but I just dont know much about them. How do they hold up, do they last forever like most toyotas?

Any and all help/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mosin Dude

Have you considered a 4 door truck? They would meet all of your criteria.

Are you gonna wheel this thing? FJ's are ugly af and just based on that I'd vote JKU. I would also look into a 4Runner. If this is a on-road only vehicle then that opens up a lot more options as well.

I'll be the oddball and give more of a thumbs up to the FJC than the previous fools.
My BIL has one we put a 4(?)" lift on w/ 35s and he's been very happy with it. Road manners are fine, and he's had no reliability issues at all.
They are very heavy and "squat" for their size, the low COG works very well offroad. More like driving a tank than a Jeep for sure. It will be a very different experience than your LR. Its more of a brute-force vehicle than finesse.
Notably, it is IFS, so for serious wheeling you're limited but there are a wide range of options for suspension upgrades.

Visbility sucks. Especially the rear corners. The back seat doors are OK for kids and spry adults but not big people. I could see how it would be awkward for something like infant car seats if that matters.

Wheeled JKs are very "normal". This is both good and bad.
An important question here is your price and vehicle range you're looking for.

+1 for FJ. If you want the full doors go with an 80 or 100 series. The FJCruiser has a tight back seat and doors.

Good buddy of mine has had plenty of JKs and a few FJ Cruisers. It’s easier to get sucked down the rabbit hole in a JK and you get bit by the wheeling bug hard. FJ will keep you from sinking the value of another JK into your JK. JKUs have been getting families out there on the trails and the top comes off. Besides the fact you’ll never get the interior clean, FJ Cruiser has blind spots out the ass and it’s nice trading off driving duties.

But you can also get a 4 runner with a rear locker. Same buddy is trying to talk his wife into getting one. They are pricey but it’s like riding in an car, I’m sure with a good set of sliders, 33s, small lift and skids it would go anywhere you wanted to take the family.

Given the range of options, throw a Grand Cherokee in there.

Get the super rare 4 door TJ that's how you can be different and get what you want

Between those 3 a jk, but a land cruiser would really be nice

Ooohh yeah. Get a 90s Landcruiser. Nice stable, unusual vehicle, holds its value, good road manners.

I vote Toyota. Anything toyota. Fj, 4runner, 80/100 series cruiser.

For the record I now own 2 jeep.

And a land cruiser........

toyota hands down.

I said Jk because my 12 has been dependable as hell, almost anything that it has needed has been due to me. I also now have a 17 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and it's a sweet ride. I wouldn't hesitate to throw that in the mix.

The yota is a fine vehicle but has more blind spots than Stevie Wonder.

Land Rovers are anything but dependable.
