Here are some progress pics of my FJ40 buggy project. Jim (Rockmafia) tubed the back-half and did a 4-link in the rear with air shocks. Now I have to make a new tranny/t-case crossmember, clock the t-case, fab floorboards, plumb the fuel cell and rear brakes, wire the battery and tail lights, run exhaust, etc.
This is the Cruiser before:

Here it is after stripping it to take to Jim's:

After cutting the body tub and rear of frame off:

It looked decent before, but the body tub wasn't in great condition. And I wanted to get rid of the leaf springs in the rear.

The wheels in the last pics are temporary, just to mock up the 42s. I have 17" beadlocks for it that will be going on soon.

Rk/ Jim looks awesome can't wait to see it with 17's and on the trail..

OMFG!!! Thsoe seat tabs are in single shear!! You're gonna die!!! Nooooooooooooooooo!!!

Now get back out there and finish the fawker... :)

Looking good R.K.! Get you some 2" BS wheels and widen that joker out! haha

No way.. We need an "Off-camber Cruiser Canary".. We'll get him some OCC stickers and he'll be pimpin..

What is an "off-camber cruiser canary", you ask? Simple! "I dunno, that's pretty steep, we might roll.." "Well let's find out how bad it is! Send in the canary!"

:flipoff2:

looks very nice. you'll love that rear susp. after wheeling on leaves so long. that is assuming the guy who set it up got the triangulation of the coeficient of the speration ratio correct so as to offset the anti squat into the hook up per sq. inch of tire contact and therefor avoid axle steer.
also, cut off that stinger looking front tube work, it must weigh what.....40lbs?

:lol::flipoff2:

those 40 pound stingers are the BOMB:flipoff2:

dam right they are....i'd love to add one to mine but can't afford the extra weight, that would put me at 6240lbs. i don't think i would be able to crawl anything then-strictly momentum:flipoff2:

The 42s are on it right now just to see how well they would fit. I have decided to go back to my 39.5s for now. The 17" beadlocks that my 39.5s are on have less backspacing than the wheels the 42s are on.

I may go to 42s in the future, after I wheel it some with the new set-up to see how it does. If I do, they'll obviously be for a 17" wheel, not 15s like the ones in the last pics.

Keep the 42's. You got hydro assist and all now! :huggy:

We clocked the t-case and made a new crossmember for it. Big thanks to Steve (Yotaman), Matt (Pinkston), Josh (HardTaco), and Robbie for helping.

I'm working on the floor boards, plumbing the fuel cell, some wiring, etc right now, but nothing worth taking pics of yet.

I have plumbed the fuel cell and rear brakes, mounted and wired the tail lights, mounted the 42s on new beadlocks, etc. I am fabbing the floorboards now. Then I'll be ready for exhaust.
