Ok heres the deal, a good friend of mine gave me a FJ 60 axle to use fro my SAS. WE thought it was a 62 axle, but turns out its a 60. I have seen mixed reviews about it through the 4 hours of research i just done:confused:.
The good- free, same outters as a 8in mini truck axle, free, 9.5" ring gear, 58 3/4" wide, free, vented rotors, free, etc.
The bad- SUA, heavy

Marlin sells a high steer kit for it, and so does Iron Pig Offroad. It cant use a mini truck high steer because its wider. I seen on pirate "someone said" you have to get different steering arms to clear the springs when you convert it to SOA. Can anyone verify this?

Anybody on here have first hand experience swappinmg this to an IFS toyota pup?

Opinions needed fellers!!

I have a FJ 60 with spring over lift & Hi Steer. We had to do some fab eork to get them to clear the springs on the pass side but not dure what they would do on a pick up.

I've seen a sas done on a p/u over on pirate, ill see if I can find it tonight.

Was that you in the FJ60 at the Flats Benefit Ride last month?

Got some FJ-60's for sale on here. Buy one of them and that would give you longfields, hi-steer, and an extra 3rd.
yea i seen those for sale. great set up but out of my price range lol

barnee- I would bet you would have to do the same to clear them on a pickup, since I would be using FJ tie rod and drag link.

92- Thanks, let me know if you find it.

After seeing the axle is 3.70, a 4.11 ring gear is $238 bucks, and a master install kit is $200, I may end up just going with a 8in axle. Seems liek it would be cheaper/ less fab work in the long run.

That's what I am saying about the axles I have. Buy ONE of my axles for $1,300 and you get 6-stud hi-steer arms and knuckles, tie-rod, longfields, 4.10 gears, AND you could swap everything to your housing and sell the housing set up for 4-link (as a complete axle with all your parts). If I separate them I'd want to sell the rear, since you have a housing anyways to swap the parts to it wouldn't matter.

All that said, I ran FJ-40 axles in a buggy I had because I needed axles that were passenger drop front and rear, they served me well. I broke one birf with a VERY light buggy (less than 3K), and I also broke the rear carrier. Once I put an ARB in the rear and Dirty 30's in the front I didn't have anymore trouble. The ring/pinion are stronger than an 8", BUT the pinion shaft size and the axleshafts are the same size as an 8" (which I guess means you could consider the ring/pinion the same as an 8").

Yep the white one with black hood & black on the bottom on 35s. I think I was the only FJ60 there that day saw other FJs that looked good though. I'm considering selling or trading it just cause I'm more of a Chevy guy.

10-4 I think I saw a blue one too. Yours looks good. I have a love hate relationship with mine, sometimes it feel like its a constant uphill battle with the lack of aftermarket components.

Thats actually a good idea, if I had that kind of coin to throw at it. But my buddy has 3 more sets of 8 inch axles so ill give this one back to him and get a 8 in. He actually got the axle for a buggy he plans to build anyways, so it will all work out. Off topic, but u see the stuff u make on face book out of metal and im gonna give u a shoot when I start decorating the man cave
