I've been tossing around the idea of putting a flat bed body on my SRW F250. What do you guys think? Where did you buy your body?

I was thinking of something like this.

Dodge coming out with the new line of work trucks over the past year I was thinking more and more about something like that. If I do it I plan on building a bed. It would be nice to have a 10' bed with a tool box and maybe a 60-80 gal Diesel tank plus the 40-50 they are using on the truck.

Flat bed means you have to scale. Pickup bed means you drive right on by.

Does it say that somewhere, that a flat bed = must scale ?

what if you had stake sides? how high = ok

An stock looking bed = ok ?

and what about a utility body ?

I never scale nor do I plan...

oh ya ill add that when I was researching flat beds etc.. All I could find was if you were UNDER 26k gross ** and owned the contents (not making money by hauling) you didn't have to stop.

** some exceptions, military use, Moving truck/van rentals, RVs (for now) etc..

flat bed

Dont know about all the rules but on my way to work everyday i pass by one that is sitting in a guys yard for sale. It looks like 1/4" steel diamond plate 10' long it looks good from the road like its brand new. i dont know him but would stop buy and ask if yall were interested.

I have a similiar bed on my 05' dodge 3500. There is a place in hamptonville that pre-fabs them. I priced both ways. If I had one made by he welding shop, they wanted my truck for 3 days and was going to cost about 400 dollars more. I had a local guy remove my bed and install the flat bed with a goose neck hitch and it took all of about 3 hours. I use mine alot and love it! The only down side is whatever you put in the back has to be strapped!

Keeps from gathering clutter.
I found this one that I really like, but don't think I can afford. I like the under bed storage for chains and straps and also the rub rail for easy strapping.

So how much did it cost you ?

Not that I regularly pass a weight station, but if you display a small not for hire sign aren't you exempt? My buddy does on his race car hauler and has never weighed or been stopped. How does the state differentiate between a flat bed for commercial use and a Western Hauler type for RV towing? Call me a daredevil but I think I'd have to wait till I was stopped and told different before I take my rig through every weigh station.

flatbed

10-4 yager I live in lillington but the flatbed is in Sanford it was there to day at 3:30 I'll stop tomorrow and see what the deal is.

Don't know if you have followed up on this or not... but if it's the one on Hawkins Avenue, the guy wants $1050 for it. It looks good from the road. It's been out there a long time, so he'll probably deal.

It's on Hawkins Avenue in Sanford, on the left and just short of the intersection with Weatherspoon if you are coming in from US 1.

When I was looking at flatbeds for my F550 Crew last year, I talked to a shop in Albemarle that builds all sorts of beds. He quoted me a really reasonable price on a 9 footer. I wanna say somewhere around $2500-3000. I can't find his contact info, but his shop is on Hwy 52, on the north side of town, behind a little old BP station that's at a traffic light. There is also a fire station next to it. It'll be on the right coming from the north. Faith is not that far away, so you oughtta take a ride and check him out.
I ended up going with a military trailer bed on mine.
