So I have a 77 cj5 that is not legal on the road (soon to be not registered or inspected) I want to take it to UNF but do not have any way to get it there except flat towing with a tow bar. From seeing other posts on here and other sights I understand its considered a trailer possibly???

So i was wondering what I need to do to legally flat tow it. Could I register it as a trailer and just have trailer lights and a trailer tag on it?

thanks

Good question. I think you don't need a tag or registration because it falls under the rules for equipment with tires and axles such as welders and mortar mixers. Fact or myth?

At the minimum you will need a set of magnetic trailer lights on it.

I didnt think you needed this if you can see the lights on the towrig. I've flat towed both with and without magnetic lights. I try to use them in the dark, but get lazy in the daytime sometimes.

so I should have no problem flat towing an unregistered jeep with trailer lights on it for the 1.5 hours to UNF and on the gravel road at UNF?
