ok, so Ive got an oooollld yard sale floor jack (trolley jack), and its been painted so many times you cant see the makers mark. its the 'old' style unit, you know the ones that weigh a ton and everybody sells them under the same name. anyway, Im jacking up the CJ and all of a sudden I hear a whooshing noise and the jack lowers. I took apart everything and all seems well in the jack piston, and the spring looks clean/one piece. then filled it back up, purged the air and same thing, but this time it pumps up an inch, then leaks back down. so Im thinking its either a seal in the jack working end (ram cylinder) or in the check ball seat. but Im thinking that it might seal against a steel surface. any ideas?
