My BIL gave me some leftover tile from a project. I have enough 12" tile for both my bathrooms (and a bunch of 6" too). I am not interested in doing it myself. I'll do most anything else, but I hate painting and tile work.

My plan is to pull the terlits, moulding, vinyl flooring, then have somebody come in and lay the tile, then grout. One is about 22sqft of open floor, the other 38sqft.

This is in Sanford.

Anybody interested?

Save some work for yourself, you don't need to pull the vinyl flooring. Just put the backerboard right over it. Vinyl flooring is a PITA to remove sometimes

Didn't want to gain any more height than I have to above other floor. Vinyl is over 1/4" luan. Figure to pull that all up, then put backerboard over subfloor.

Pulling it all up wont be fun..but your floor will sit lower.

There is a product on the market that is only 1/8th or so thick that is used in place of backer board. You could go over top of everything and still be a little lower than you would by removing luan, vinyl and adding backer board and tile.

Its a roll of material. You simply spread a thin layer of thinset on existing floor, then lay the 1/8th stuff in it..smooth with flat trowel, let dry for a few mins...then use thinset as you normally would, and add tile.

It is supposed to be a better alternative than backer board. I have used it on 1 job thus far..it was easy to use and seemed to be stout once dried.

Here is an example.

Take the time and do it right, pull the old floor up. Use a circular saw and just cut it into a grid and start pulling. I could clear both rooms in 2hrs or less. Just hope the cabinet is not on top of the vinyl.

Just hope that they didnt use a staple gun to put that luan down. I laid tile for over 10 years. If I wasnt half a state away, Id come do it. Even if you use 1/4 underlayment, the finished floor will still be 3/4 above whatever you start on.

Dylan, that stuff you linked is very similar to Kerdi made by Schluder.

x2, just man up and rip it off down to seafloor - you never know what a bathroom floor is hiding anyway, now is the time to make sure it's in good shape.

DON'T TAKE IT TO THE SEAFLOOR!! That will be too far!

you will probably hit water...lol

Like stated above...I install 1/4 luan or multi-ply with 1/4 inch crown staples with 1inch to 1 1/2 inch leg...ALOT OF EM in just one sheet..maybe 150 of them...so that all wont come up with luan removal....you'll have to either pluck them one by one..or better yet just hammer each staple down flush. Both ways suck arse.

other than hand scraping old glued down vinyl flooring off of cement, luan removal is my least favorite thing to do.

I do hate those Damn little staples. Good thing I'm the boss so I can make the help deal with all this Damn things.
